The Asian American Hotel Owners Association Exceeds
7,000 Member Hoteliers; Began with Less than
100 Members in 1989
ATLANTA, July 21, 2003 The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) recently exceeded 7,000 member hoteliers, indicating a 20 percent growth over the total number of members AAHOA ended with in 2002.  In the last 60 days, more than 1,200 people have joined AAHOA through an aggressive grassroots campaign.

With more than 7,000 members, AAHOA is now the largest member-based Indian business organization in the United States and the fastest growing association in the lodging industry.

AAHOA began with less than 100 members in 1989.  We have seen phenomenal growth over the last 14 years and especially over the last two and a half months, said Hitesh Bhakta who became chairman of AAHOA in April 2003.  This is thanks to the remarkable efforts of the AAHOA board of directors and staff.

AAHOA is always facing tough challenges on behalf of its members, said Fred Schwartz, president, AAHOA.  This year, for example, we continue our work with our membership and the franchising system and are implementing an insurance cost reduction initiative.

AAHOA is also hosting the first-ever Franchise Advisory Councils (FACs) and Member Representative Summit on July 22 in Atlanta, Ga.  Most of the major franchise companies working with AAHOA have committed to participate, including Accor, Best Western, Choice Hotels International and Hilton among many others.
The community has responded to our initiatives, and we are very excited to welcome our new members aboard, concluded Bhakta.  The current board, which was elected in April, has conducted more than 30 town hall meetings since that time.  The membership has been revitalized and is participating very aggressively.
