John Q. Hammons to Develop $40 million 320-room
Embassy Suites Hotel in Frisco, Texas
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., and FRISCO, Texas March 11, 2003 Mr. John Q. Hammons today announced his plans to develop a new $40 million, 320-room Embassy Suites Hotel as part of a new professional sports complex in Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas.  The 12-story Embassy Suites Hotel will adjoin a new 100,000-square-foot convention center and also serve as an anchor of the Frisco Sports/Entertainment Complex.  Located at the epicenter of rapid growth along the Dallas North Tollway, the hotel will be located within a mile of 4 million square feet of retail development and 1.2 million square feet of corporate office space.

Construction of the Embassy Suites Hotel is expected to begin June 2003 followed by a grand opening in August 2004.  The all-suite, luxury hotel will be owned by Mr. Hammons, and the hotel and convention center will be managed by Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. (AMEX: JQH).

Friscos commitment to developing a state-of-the-art hub for sports, dining, hospitality and shopping is a natural fit for a high-end convention hotel, said Mr. John Q. Hammons, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc.  Im excited to be a part of this one-of-a-kind venture that brings sports and entertainment together amidst 4 million square feet of retail space.  The development is certain to provide phenomenal economic growth to the city of Frisco.

The $300 million Frisco Sports/Entertainment Complex, located at the northeast corner of Texas State Highway 121 and the Dallas North Tollway, is a mixed-use commercial development that is expected to contain more than 1 million square feet.  In addition to the Embassy Suites Hotel development, the complex includes a $22 million baseball stadium, home to the Double AA Frisco RoughRiders for the 2003 season, and the $20 million Frisco Dr Pepper StarCenter, the new training headquarters for the National Hockey Leagues Dallas Stars hockey team and home ice of the Junior A Texas Tornado hockey team.  The hotel also is a logical addition to Friscos existing retail destination anchored by the 1.6 million-square-foot Frisco mall and the 1.1 million-square-foot Centre at Preston Ridge.  Further developments will include a gymnastics center, as well as residential, retail and office space.

We are proud to be working with people like Mr. Hammons, a hotel development leader, to help make the Frisco Sports/Entertainment Complex a resounding success, said Mr. Mike Simpson, mayor of the city of Frisco.  We expect that adding a high-quality, luxury Embassy Suites Hotel and conference center to the complex will help drive businesses to think of Frisco as a destination for holding future meetings, conferences and exhibitions.

Looking to secure a unique niche in the Frisco community, the hotel and convention center management plan to unite sales and marketing staff to centralize efforts and to promote the hotel and convention center as first-class venues that complement one another.  The combined staff will provide a full-range of event planning, catering, and convention services.

Mr. Hammons continued, We have experienced phenomenal success with the combined Embassy Suites hotel and convention center prototype in other markets.  Unifying the sales and marketing staff at the hotel and convention center creates a synergistic environment conducive to success and rapid growth.
