Integrate its Wireless Access Points into the iPass Global Virtual Network for Enterprises - |
Atlanta, Ga., and Redwood
Shores, Calif., February 10, 2002 StayOnline®, an installer of
100 percent wireless High Speed Internet Access for the hospitality industry,
and iPass Inc. announced today an agreement to provide iPass customers
with Internet access at hotels in StayOnlines provider network. The network
aggregation agreement gives iPass the ability to integrate into its virtual
network more than 850 Wi-Fi access points that StayOnline operates at over
100 hotels such as Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites,
Marriott, Renaissance and Sheraton. It is the first such roaming agreement
for StayOnline®. The agreement gives iPass users access to StayOnlines
all-wireless network throughout the continental US.
StayOnlines wireless access gives hotel guests the ability to use their own wireless-enabled laptops, whether they are attending a meeting in a hotel conference center or common area, taking some down time by the pool, or working from their room. This agreement has the potential to provide substantial benefits to our existing hotel customers, said Antonio DiMilia, president of StayOnline. We believe that the combination of StayOnlines stable access platform and iPass secure enterprise connectivity service should provide a strong attraction for business travelers. StayOnline already has more than 850 access points in 18 hotel brands across North America, providing guests with 802.11b Wi-Fi access at these properties. iPass contracts with network service providers, including wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) such as StayOnline®, to build its virtual network of disparate providers. The iPass service is delivered through an easy-to-use software interface, iPassConnectTM, which makes connecting to these networks simple for the end-user, while maintaining the security that enterprise IT managers require. StayOnlines customer hotels are important venues for our Global Broadband Roaming service, said Anurag Lal, vice president of business development for iPass. Because many iPass customers are large enterprises around the world, providing wireless broadband through our agreement with StayOnline should enhance the benefit we provide to our customers and their mobile workers. Using state-of-the-art, proprietary technologies, StayOnline provides complete, customized solutions for its hotel clients -- from its custom-engineered wireless network design to the latest high-sensitivity plug-and-play wireless antennas. The company uses 802.11b technology, known as Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity), to provide broadband access. We have turned to StayOnline to provide its 100 percent wireless solution for the hotels in our portfolio that primarily attract the business traveler, said Ron Hardin, Director of Technology for the Davidson Hotel Company. We have found that wireless access in guest rooms as well as in the common areas of the hotels provides our guests a great convenience. We are witnessing our guests being productive in and out of their hotel rooms in ways we could not foresee before working with StayOnline. We are pleased to know that iPass users will have access to their enterprise networks at our hotels. About iPass
