Radisson Using Airline Employees to Fill Distressed
Inventory and Increase RevPAR

October 3, 2002 - With over 140 airlines around the world, airline employees number in the millions and represent some of the worlds most frequent travelers.   In fact, a recent survey* by ID90.COM shows airline employees take nearly 7 trips a year with many spending a $100 US or more a night.

As a result, the individual hotel as well as the international hotel brands are refocusing their marketing efforts to take advantage of this lucrative market.  As expressed by Shelly Irrgang, Director of Revenue Management for Radisson Hotels & Resorts, We have been actively working the airline market for the past few years and consider all business related to it very important to our brand.

Radisson Hotels & Resorts recently enlisted all their corporate owned properties on ID90.COM, a travel portal for airline employees.  However Radisson is not alone, as Six Continents, Millennium Hotels and Raffles International Hotels and Resorts are also targeting these frequent flyers in an effort to fill empty rooms and increase their RevPAR.

As Tristan Schukraft, Managing Director of ID90.COM explains, At Delta Air Lines alone there is an average of 8,640 employees that travel for leisure each and everyday and these employees need accommodation.  Simply put, these employees represent huge buying power.

Through ID90.COM property managers have the ability to promote special offers during periods of low occupancy as well the opportunity to fill empty rooms during normal periods.  With its online booking capabilities with no booking fees, ID90.COM is cost effective in addition to being helpful in reaching the masses.

While many distribution opportunities are available, one should be careful not to over look airline employees.  In the long term, airline employees can provide great word of mouth advertising and exposure for your property and in the short term they can fill your empty rooms and increase your RevPAR.

*  A total of 1,399 airline employees responded to ID90.COMs survey questions.  Survey results were averaged and numbers were rounded down.  Blank responses were not counted and therefore not included in averages.

ID90.COM is password protected and is promoted internally by airlines from around the globe.  Its worldwide members logon daily to locate accommodations, helping its family of worldwide travel partners fill empty rooms.  ID90.COM refers all members to each hotel and does not charge booking or commission fees.  For more information call 818-597-2510 or e-mail [email protected].  Contact: Matt Smith.
