Copenhagen - February 2002 - In our continued effort to secure Hotel
DAngleterres position in the absolute elite of the best hotels in Europe,
the Remmen Hotels is currently undertaking a major refurbishment of the
technical installations at this distinguished 247 year-old hotel.
In particular, the air-conditioning
system at Hotel DAngleterre will be replaced by one of the most advanced
air-conditioning systems on the market today. The system will be installed
in all hotel rooms and suites; in all banquet and conference facilities;
in the DAngleterre Spa & Fitness and in all other areas with public
access. As a matter of course, the hotel guests will be able to adjust
the temperature from discreet panels in the rooms. For further convenience,
a central control allows the temperature to be adjusted to the hotel guests
preference prior to his or her arrival.
Apart from renewing the air-conditioning system, we will also be installing
the latest technology to support IT and telephone communications with broadband
cable access from all rooms, suites and conference facilities. Furthermore,
all plumbing will be refitted too.
The instalment of the air-conditioning system in all rooms and suites
will be completed on 1 June 2002 allowing it to be fully operative for
the convenience of our summer guests at Hotel DAngleterre whether they
be business people, holidaymakers or cruise ship travellers.
This investment only covers the latest of a whole number of improvements
at the distinguished Hotel DAngleterre, which have been carried out since
Mr Henning Remmen and Mrs Else Marie Remmen acquired the hotel in 1993.
With investments of over 150 million Danish kroner in the hotel and through
other initiatives, Mr and Mrs Remmen have |
The history of Hotel D'Angleterre originate in a love
story taking place in the middle of the 18th century. A young hairdresser
named Jean Marechal came to Copenhagen with a theatre company on tour.
He was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the city that he decided to quit
the theatre and stay. He had a job as valet in the house of the famous
Count Conrad Danneskiold Laurvig who was a true gigolo. Working as a servant
he quickly became a natural part of the royal staff and here he met the
royal chef's daughter, Maria Coppy, who was known for her cooking talent.
They fell in love, got married and established themselves by The Lakes
in Copenhagen. In the spring of 1755 they opened a restaurant called "The
Strong Man's Garden" which they moved to Kongens Nytorv in the fall same
year. From this year we count the history of Hotel D'Angleterre, though
the name is not recorded until 30 years later.
In 1787 the property was sold to Gottfried Rau who was
host of "The British Club" and he changed the name to Hotel D'Angleterre.
In 1795 the hotel burned down and in stead of rebuilding the place, Gottfried
Rau bought "Gram's Farm" only one block away. Over the gate to this beautiful
farm hung the Gram's coat of arms, a sandstone shield in two parts with
a moon and three stars. This shield is representing The Hotel D'Angleterre
today.
For a long period of time the hotel kept its physical
form but changed owners a couple of times. In 1872 the hotel was bought
by "The Construction Company" which carried out eztension as well as refurbishment.
Throughout the years Hotel D'Angleterre has had several
owners but the traditional and classic style is kept. Today's owners, Mr.
& Mrs. Remmen, bought the hotel in 1993 and since then the hotel has
undergone an extensive renovation, yet keeping its character and atmosphere. |

solidified the hotels position as the best hotel in Denmark. Hotel DAngleterre
has been elected the best hotel in Denmark for 6 consecutive years. Last
year the hotel came in as number one in the Nordic countries and a grand
number 43 in the awards for the best hotel in the world.
Hotel DAngleterre is the only member of the Leading Hotels of the
World in Denmark and was built in 1755. It has always been the preferred
hotel by royalty, heads of state and the famous. Since Mr and Mrs Remmen
acquired the hotel in 1993, the hotel has undergone a meticulous refurbishment,
and today the hotel is quite apparently one of the most beautiful buildings
in town.
Hotel DAngleterre is the flagship among the Remmen Hotels, which furthermore
count Hotel Kong Frederik, Sophie Amalie Hotel, Restaurant Copenhagen corner
and the luxury yacht, DAngleterre II de Copenhague.
