Qualitá Management, a Hotel Management Company
Based in Brasília, Acquired by
Atlantica Hotels International
SÃO PAULO, December 14, 2001   Atlantica Hotels International has announced the acquisition of Qualitá Management, a hotel-management company based in Brasília, the capital of Brazil and home to more than two million residents. The acquisition, effective immediately, will add three operational hotels with 530 rooms as well as eight hotels under construction including one scheduled to open by year-end to the fast-growing Atlantica Hotels International portfolio. Atlantica will open a regional office in Brasília to provide support to the new hotels.

This is Atlantica Hotels Internationals second management-company acquisition. Last year, the company acquired Buenos Aires-based HMI, a move that added two Buenos Aires Hotels the Clarion Aspen Towers and Comfort Suites Aspen.

The acquisition of Qualitá Management and the addition of the regional office add considerable strength to Atlantica Hotels Internationals presence in Western Brazil. Atlantica is well on target to have 21 hotels in the region by the year 2004, including Choice, Starwood and Radisson brands as well as independent hotels.

Over the past several years, the Qualitá Management team has built a highly successful company with a reputation for superior client service and profit performance, said Paul J. Sistare, president and CEO of Atlantica Hotels International. We are delighted to have not only the excellent product represented by Qualitá but also the addition of a respected team of lodging professionals.

The new hotels all owned and operated by Atlantica Hotels International are the 100-room Clarion Hotel Bonaparte, considered one of the top hotels in the city of Brasília; the 330-room Metropolitan Hotel, also in Brasília; and the 100-room Address Hotel in the city of Goiania.

Last year, Atlantica Hotels announced development of the US$25 million Quality Hotel & Suites Lakeside Brasília, a 360-room property with a full-service marina located near the presidential palace and scheduled to open later this year. Four other western Brazil hotels are presently under construction.

The acquisition of Qualitá Management follows last weeks announcement of a strategic alliance with Radisson Hotels & Resorts, a deal that will add an estimated 10 hotels to the Atlantica Hotels International portfolio within the next 36 months. In May, Atlantica opened Brazils first Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in the southeastern city of Curitiba and announced plans to develop 12 Four Points by Sheraton hotels in the near future.

The city of Brasília is the heart of the eight-largest economy in the world and has become an increasingly important international business destination, said Paul J. Sistare, president and CEO of Atlantica Hotels International. Although the city was inaugurated as the capital of Brazil in 1960, its importance as a world-class destination has long been ignored by the international lodging industry. With our acquisition of Qualitá and further growth plans in the next three years, it is our intention to finally offer visitors to Brasília a true choice of lodging facilities.

Formed in 1988, Atlantica Hotels International is the first multi-brand hotel-management company in South America. By year-end, Atlantica Hotels will have 26 hotels with 4,238 rooms under management, representing a total of US$780 million in assets. The company is adding approximately two contracts per month and is opening one new hotel every 20 days.
