Centerpiece of Prestigious Architectural Honor |
GLENORCHY, NEW ZEALAND Sept. 10 - Alex Dickson, project manager of Blanket
Bay's construction effort has recently received one of the building industry's
top honors for his work on this New Zealand luxury hotel: the 2001
James Hardie Award. The property also came first in the category
for projects over $2 million. Mr. Dickson accepted these distinctions
during a ceremony held in Auckland on Saturday August 11, 2001.
Blanket Bay's lakeside rooms and suites are situated to afford stunning views of Lake Wakatipu. Each suite features a 440-square foot balcony or terrace, spacious living areas, ensuite bathroom and stone fireplace. Tom Tusher, from San Francisco, owns Blanket Bay and is the former President and C.O.O. of Levi Strauss. In 1974 he and his wife purchased 55 acres on Lake Wakatipu, 40 minutes north of Queenstown, and an additional 60,000 acres of adjacent land after retirement. Construction of Blanket Bay began in 1997. It took more than two years to complete and the lodge was officially opened in December 1999. Blanket Bay, named to Conde Nast Traveler's "Hot List" 2000, is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and recent recipient of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report Grand Award. Located on the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, five intimate, lakeside rooms have a balcony or terrace, king-sized beds and sitting area. Three 700-square foot suites offer bedroom and sitting areas along with stone fireplaces, bathrooms with steam shower and separate tub. Each suite comes with a 400-square foot private terrace. The chalet bedrooms have spectacular lake views, king-sized beds, stone fireplaces, and bathrooms with steam showers, separate tubs and double vanities. Each has a private courtyard entrance and separate terrace. |
