Manhattan East Suite Hotels

NEW YORK, June 15, 2001 - Boasting one of the highest employee retention rates in the industry at 85%, Manhattan East Suite Hotels is pleased to announce the appointment of three new general managers who are moving from one Manhattan East property to another within the family of ten all-suite hotels.

"Having a collection of ten properties and a career-path program that encourages our associates to gain experience in various positions enables Manhattan East to fully support career growth and develop lasting relationships," said Doug O'Neill, director of human resources, Manhattan East Suite Hotels.  "We have a very high rate of repeat business and our guests really appreciate seeing the same familiar faces welcoming them each time they stay with us."

The three new general managers have been with Manhattan East for a combined 28 years and have worked at five of the ten hotels during their tenure.

Tom Chamberlain has assumed the position of general manager at the Dumont Plaza, located at 34th Street and Lexington Avenue.  Mr. Chamberlain started with the company in 1989 at the Dumont as assistant general manager.  He has also served as general manager of Plaza Fifty, at 50th Street and Third Avenue, and most recently at the Shelburne Murray Hill, at 37th Street and Lexington Avenue.

Replacing Mr. Chamberlain as general manager at the Shelburne is Lori-Ann Hamilton.  Ms. Hamilton also returns to familiar surroundings as she joined Manhattan East in 1988 as assistant general manager of the hotel.  She served as general manager for four years at the company's Lyden Gardens, located at 64th Street and Third Avenue.

Victor Freeman, who has been with the company for three years, has been promoted to general manager at Plaza Fifty.  Freeman previously served as assistant general manager at The Benjamin, at 50th Street and Lexington Avenue, where he was instrumental in the $30-million renovation and the launch of the company's first luxury property.

Manhattan East Suite Hotels, a family-run business for more than 30 years, offers travelers spacious accommodations and outstanding value in Manhattan's most desirable East Side/Midtown neighborhoods.  With ten hotels, over 2,000 rooms and 1,100 employees, Manhattan East is New York's largest all-suite hotel company.  The Manhattan East Suite Hotels collection includes the Beekman Tower Hotel, Dumont Plaza, Eastgate Tower, Lyden Gardens, Lyden House, Plaza Fifty, Shelburne Murray Hill, Southgate Tower, Surrey Hotel and The Benjamin.
