Forwarded by world-renowned environmentalist,
Dr. David Suzuki, the guide is a follow up to Fairmonts first book, which
was the foundation of the companys award winning Green Partnership program.
A step-by-step guide to incorporating environmental initiatives into the
workplace, the Second Edition details everything needed to start, maintain
and grow an environmental program, including information on reducing operating
costs, keeping employees motivated and tracking savings.
According to Ann Layton, Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications
for Fairmont and winner of the International Green Hotelier Award, the
time was right to launch the new Guide. Our first Green Partnership
Guide was enormously popular, and we have sold thousands of copies all
over the world.
The new guide contains all the new information that we have learned
in the past decade, and truly is a blueprint that any business - not just
hotels - can follow.
Karen Fletcher, Director International Hotels Environment Initiative
in London, England adds that The Green Partnership Guide offers simple,
step-by-step |
The International Hotels Environment
Initiative (IHEI) is an innovative concept developed by the global hotel
industry for the global hotel industry. Our simple, yet ambitious objective
is to promote environmental management as an integral part of running a
successful hotel business.
As a sector-specific campaign established by The Prince
of Wales Business Leaders Forum (PWBLF) in 1992, the IHEI has won strong
endorsement from leading business and environmental organisations.
The IHEI is led by a Council of 12 of the top hotel companies
in the world; Accor, Forte Hotels, Hilton International, Holiday Hospitality,
Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Marriott
International, Marco-Polo Hotels, Radisson SAS Hotels Worldwide, Scandic
Hotels, ITT Sheraton and The Taj Group of Hotels.
The IHEI seeks to prove that concern for the environment
is much more than a worthy cause; reduced consumption and less waste
lead to substantial bottom line savings. The peripheral, but significant
benefits of improved community image and increased staff motivation are
a further bonus.
Our strategy embraces four key actions:
-
IHEI promotes the business benefits of environmental management
within the international hotel community.
-
IHEI develops hotel-specific environmental training materials.
-
IHEI links those with an interest through a quarterly magazine
Green Hotelier dedicated to environmental issues.
-
IHEI recruits relevant influential business partners to ensure
the widest possible awareness of IHEIs best practice programmes.
