Brussels, March 2001 - Cologne and Frankfurt
am Main are to become new locations of Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts,
representing an exceptionally important step for the organisation�s
expansion in the German market. In addition, the Radisson SAS Hotel
in Berlin is currently being demolished to make way for a successor that
will become operational again under the same management from 2003
onwards.
Cologne, Germany�s oldest city, has over one million
inhabitants. Approximately 20 million people live in the agglomeration

The 20 storey building will be visible from far. It will have at least 420 rooms, a restaurant, a 1,300 sqm banqueting and conference area, a fitness centre and 200 parking spaces. Construction is due to begin in mid-2001 and the opening is planned for mid-2003. The site is in the heart of an important new business area close to the American Express building. The important position of Frankfurt am Main as one of Europe�s largest trade and finance centres was further emphasised when the European Central Bank relocated to the city in July 1998. For decades now, Frankfurt has also been the headquarters of the German Bundesbank and the city�s skyscraper skyline is dominated by the many headquarters of German and international banking institutions. Frankfurt - Trade & Finance Centre The city�s approximately 370 credit institutions have attracted many companies in related sectors such as insurance companies, law firms, tax advisers, etc. Frankfurt�s significance as a trade and finance centre is also reflected in the International Frankfurt Trade Fair. With 34 fairs and a total of 42,500 exhibitors, about 1.9 million visitors are recorded every year. The conference and congress area generates over 3 million congress participants a year, representing 3.4 million overnight stays. Two-year break in Berlin November 2000 saw the start of the demolition of the Radisson SAS Hotel in Berlin. The new building with the name �DomAquarée� - because of its vicinity to the River Spree everything follows the �water� theme - will be re-opened in the same location in 2003. It will become an international first-class hotel with 429 rooms, restaurants, a lobby bar, a huge aquarium and a conference centre. The 300 million German marks construction will be implemented by the holding company DIFA AG (Deutsche Immobilien Fonds) in Hamburg, who signed a 20-year leasing contract with Radisson SAS. The new establishment will be ideally situated right opposite the cathedral and the �Museum Island�. Germany is one of the main markets for Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts. The following locations are currently already operational or being planned: Berlin, Cologne, Cottbus, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Frankfurt, Göhren-Lebbin (Schloss Fleesensee), Hamburg, Hanover, Lübeck, Merseburg, Neubrandenburg, Rostock, Trent-Rügen and Wiesbaden.
