Predictions for the Near Future
  • Multi-brand franchise companies will start selling off some of their brands because of massive lawsuits due to disgruntled owners and impact issues.
  • More luxury brands will emerge in the next several years.
  • No massive recession in the U.S. hotel industry for another decade - things will remain good.
  • The present consolidation of hotel companies (Hilton/Starwood, etc.) will stop shortly and these companies will be broken up within 10 years.
  • U.S. hotel companies will focus on foreign expansion.
  • In our lifetime, fully automated hotels requiring no labor.
  • Widespread video communication will (finally) become a reality making many forms of travel unnecessary.
Opportunities
  • Exploit fully the tremendous expense-saving opportunities remaining in areas such as energy, insurance, employee training and retention, waste removal, etc.
  • Rejuvenate and re-brand obsolete hotels with good locations.
  • Build, buy or own large convention hotels.
  • Develop better guest loyalty programs.
  • Invest in foreign hotel management and ownership.
