Radisson SAS Resort at Mijas Golf in Spain |
Brussels, February 2001. Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts
has signed an agreement with Mijas Hill Development,
S.A., a Spanish development company, to manage a new
hotel in Mijas, Spain. The property will be the
chains first step into the Spanish market. The future resort
is currently under construction and expected to open in January 2002.
Located within the province of Malaga, in the south of Spain, the municipality of Mijas has lots of different sites to show. Nestled in the beautiful mountains overlooking the Mediterranean is Mijas Pueblo, an ancient village full of history that has become a popular tourist destination. This walled town offers beautiful architecture, historical ruins and stunning views. Pawel Efraimov, President of Globe Developers Inc., based in New York City, formed Mijas Hill Development, S.A. in 1997 to undertake this luxury resort hotel project at Mijas Golf. Mr. Efraimov states: I have been an international developer for twenty years and I personally believe Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts is the premium hotel operator. We are delighted to announce this agreement with Radisson SAS as it is a massive endorsement of our project, and I am sure that this hotel, representing their first entry into the Spanish market, will be a great success. A few kilometers away lies Mijas Costa, a former fishing village that has grown into an attractive leisure area offering beaches and water sports. The region also plays host to the recently completed magnificent Hippodrome racecourse. This spectacular development not only offers a broad array of recreational facilities, but, due to the favourable winter climate, has furthermore become a major golf destination with over 15 courses, also embraced by two of the Costa del Sols best 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones. The future Radisson SAS Resort is conveniently situated only 25 kilometres away from the international airport of Malaga, just between Mijas Pueblo and Mijas Costa. It is on the top of a small hill with panoramic views, where Mijas Golf together with the coast are positioned with the mountains as backdrop. The resort complex will be designed in a whitewashed Spanish village style with a total of 95 suites. Rooms will vary from one or two to three-bedroom units, with kitchenettes catering to longer-staying leisure guests. Facilities will include a lobby with a lounge and small retail units as well as conference and meeting rooms in the business center. Guests will be able to enjoy the great panoramic view from the large terrace of the restaurant or simply enjoy a fine cocktail at the bar. Furthermore, there will be a health area with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a fitness suite. Kurt Ritter, President & CEO for Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, comments: We have long looked for presence in Spain and are very excited to have found this great opportunity. With our Scandinavian routes and high presence in the European markets, we will now be able to sell Mijas as a popular leisure and golf destination. Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, currently includes 106 hotels in operation and 27 hotels under development in 38 countries and is the sole franchisor in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Radisson Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. |
