The conference will be held March 21-23, 2001 in Washington, DC, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. To meet the industrys demand, Dean Butler declared,
Cornell has gone all-out in soliciting the advice and counsel of industry
executives through a pre-conference Key Industry Issues Survey and aggressively
recruiting some of the most sought-after analysts to headline a conference
program that visibly raises the bar.
In addition, to develop the content for this years conference, The Hotel School has conducted a Key Industry Issues Survey of hospitality executives that identifies and explores the key challenges they will face in the next three to five years. Findings from the survey helped shape the program and will be a focus of the conference panel, "Excellence Through Knowledge," co-moderated by Professor Cathy Enz, executive director of the center for hospitality research, and Roger Cline, partner, Arthur Andersen. Professor Thomas P. Cullen, associate dean for industry and international affairs, and director of Cornells strategy conferences, spearheaded the conference format which features panel discussions co-moderated by Cornell Hotel School faculty and top-level executives from leading hospitality companies, focusing on marketing, financial and asset management, trends in technology, and strategic management. Cullen said the panels will forego the traditional "parade of presenters" offering individual briefings, in favor of open discussions between sought-after analysts, and interaction between panelists and audiences. "We are assembling some of our industry's most knowledgeable leaders and some of its most provocative idea people, and we're going to set a match to that high-octane mixture," Cullen said. "It's going to be a lively ride." Panel topics and moderators include: Managing Tomorrow: A Strategic Look
Creating Customer Value: Every Day, Every Stay
Technology, e-Commerce, and Competitive Advantage
Excellence Through Knowledge: Tomorrow's Solution
CEO Panel Discussion
Financial Strategies: Discovering Hidden Value
The Cornell Hotel School will also host the Hospitality
Industry Strategy Conference Europe May 21-23, 2001 at the Hilton London
Metropole in London, England.
