BETHESDA, Md., January 15, 2015 – Urgo Hotels & Resorts today announced that it purchased, for an undisclosed sum, the Whiteface Lodge Resort, a AAA four-diamond resort located in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Nestled on six million pristine acres of upstate New York national park on the shores of Lake Placid, the 94-suite Whiteface Lodge is a contemporary rendition of the 19th century heyday of legendary Adirondack resorts with wood beam construction, hand-made furnishings and a roster of amenities and activities suitable for the entire family. The resort also includes 14 undeveloped acres including pristine lakefront property.

“Having operated Whiteface Lodge for nearly three years, we were able to gain a complete understanding of the potential enterprise value of the White Face Lodge assets as a whole, including the operating business, the remaining for-sale real estate and undeveloped real estate,” said Kevin Urgo, principal and managing partner of Urgo Hotels.

“Whiteface Lodge specializes in offering guests an authentic Adirondack experience that is steeped in mountain tradition, but presented with contemporary finesse,” Urge continued. “During our tenure as the resort’s operators, we were able to enhance the guest experience while creating operating efficiencies and significantly improving operating results. We look forward to building upon our collaborative working relationship with the homeowners association to share ideas and make further improvements to the physical plant, guest amenities and service levels to enhance the experience of guests and owners alike.”

Whiteface Lodge Resort offers 94 one-to-four bedroom suites along with a private residence club. The property features a 5,800 square-foot spa with six treatment rooms and a fully equipped fitness center. Conde Nast Traveler has recognized the resort with prestigious awards, including “The World’s Best Places to Stay,” “Top 100 Resort Spas” and “Top 20 Resorts in the Northeast.” The resort also has earned the Wine Spectator “Award of Excellence” and is rated as the number one Lake Placid resort by Trip Advisor. The expansive, four-season resort includes an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink, 54-seat movie theater, two bowling lanes, tennis courts, snowshoe/cross country trails and a private beach on Lake Placid with a canoe club providing boat rentals.

The resort is enhanced by fine dining at Kanu, featuring an open kitchen and Adirondack great room setting, summertime alfresco dining, and cognac and cigar lean-tos built in the style of Adirondack hunting lodges, with luxury features such as a drink menu that includes a selection of 25 single malt scotches and hand-rolled cigars.
