Jan. 27–A new 150-room Tryp by Wyndham hotel is set to be built in Fort Lauderdale along the State Road 84 marina district — the first in Florida and only the third in the U.S.

Groundbreaking on the $23 million, eight-story hotel at 2161 W. State Road 84 is slated for early March, with a target opening date of March 2016, said Maria Bosch of The Bosch Group in Pembroke Pines.

Officially called Tryp Maritime by Wyndham, Fort Lauderdale, the new hotel will cater to marine businesses in the area such as boat brokerages, marinas and repair yards, said Bosch, spokeswoman for its developer Hotel At Marina Bay LLC.

“It will have a modern nautical feel, with some cruise ship elements, and photography of marine life in common areas, hallways and rooms,” she said.

The Tryp Maritime hotel also will have a bar and European-style tapas bar, which will feature 11 aquariums with a variety of marine life.

Hotel At Marina Bay’s president, Jack Taplin, already has two developments in the area: the 168-slip Marina Bay marina and The Falls at Marina Bay, a mixed-used apartment complex.

“It’s a good marriage,” Bosch said of the partnership between Taplin and Tryp by Wyndham.

The chain’s other U.S. hotels are in New York City and New Jersey, according to tryphotels.com. The majority of Tryp hotels are located in Europe and across South America.
