NEW YORK (August 26, 2015) Smyth, a Thompson Hotel, in partnership with local owners Tribeca Associates, is pleased to debut today its reimagined guestrooms and suites, marking the completion of the second phase of the hotel’s refresh. The 14-story hotel located in the heart of downtown New York City represents a new chapter for the city’s oldest neighborhood, blending the charm of historic Tribeca with the energetic aura of its modern day residents. Conveniently located at 85 West Broadway on the corner of Chambers Street, the hotel is relaxed and comfortable, yet an elegant environment with interiors curated by Gachot Studios.

“We are ecstatic to unveil the next chapter of this hotel’s legacy,” said Smyth General Manager Pedro Dias. “The redesign features an understated elegance that transitions the hotel into a new era.”

Soho-based Gachot Studios, founded by John and Christine Gachot, known for its work on New York City’s The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, The Sterling Mason Residences and Acme restaurant, melds timeless craft with modern technique to create projects with a refined aesthetic and profound sense of place. The same technique was applied to the design of the hotel’s guestrooms and four suites – the Penthouse, Smyth Suite and two Thompson Suites. Inspired by classic Tribeca lofts, the interiors draw from the design aesthetic in the hotel lobby spaces. The rooms are welcoming, flooded with natural light and outfitted with simple, yet sophisticated statement pieces throughout.

Featuring eclectic mid-century modern furniture and fabrics, many materials were sourced locally with the Gachots calling on friends and shop owners in Tribeca, as well as greater New York City. The theme throughout the rooms and suites, as in the lobby spaces, is familiarity and comfort.

“The best part about Smyth was I could walk right outside the hotel doors into the heart of Tribeca and shop locally for pieces to use throughout the hotel,” said Christine Gachot, co-founder of Gachot Studios. “We set out to create a familiar and functional space for guests.”

Smyth, a Thompson Hotel, boasts 100 well-appointed guestrooms and suites, many with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows and sweeping views of downtown Manhattan. The reimagined rooms are light and neutral, with creamy linen window treatments, warm wood bed frames, and vintage walnut desks and chairs. Oversized bed pillows with a custom fabric designed by Gachot are the epitome of functionality, transforming the bed into a workspace as needed, a touch that is a reflection of John and Christine’s own home. Each room features custom cotton throw blankets by ALT for Living, ceramic lamps by Stone and Sawyer and a classic Eames shell chair from Modernica.

The four suites resemble the classic pied-a-terre, featuring similar tones and design elements as in the guestrooms. The suites boast their own dining and living rooms, each with unique, timeless vintage pieces. Inside are custom black sisal area rugs by ALT for Living, lounge chairs upholstered in a Gachot-designed custom striped fabric, pendant lighting by trans-LUXE, sofas by Montauk Sofa and Bensen, custom coffee tables fabricated by Woodworks, and eclectic artwork. The Penthouse features an oversized master bedroom, lavish living area, full dining room and kitchen with a wet bar for entertaining, plus an 800-square-foot landscaped terrace with a palette of warm wood and black accents. The Smyth Suite includes a spacious master bedroom, living area and dining room with a 300-square-foot terrace.
