Sea Island, GA (June 15, 2016) – Sea Island Company today announced that the ownership of the company is being consolidated under the Anschutz family, one of its four current owners, marking the return of this historic property to long term family stewardship and commitment.

This consolidation of ownership also brings together two iconic independent resorts in Sea Island and The Broadmoor, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sea Island, founded in 1928, is the only resort in the world to have received four Forbes Five-Star awards for eight consecutive years and The Broadmoor, founded in 1918, is the longest consecutive recipient of a Forbes Five-Star award in the world. Collectively, the two resorts have established a 186-year tradition of excellence. According to Scott Steilen, President of Sea Island, “The complementary nature of our two resorts and, more importantly, the cultural similarities, will create an opportunity to enhance the guest experience at each of our destinations. I have long admired The Broadmoor’s operation and look forward to working together to elevate the broad array of offerings we each provide.”

Steve Bartolin, Chairman of The Broadmoor, added, “Rarely does an opportunity come along that creates a marriage of two unique Five-Star resort destinations with such a wide range of offerings and experiences. From a world class golf performance center and horseback riding on the beach at Sea Island to zip lining and fly fishing on private waters at The Broadmoor, and accommodations ranging from the warmth of an old English manor at The Lodge to a view of the mountains and valleys atop Cloud Camp, the offerings at these two resort properties are remarkable. While the diversity of the ocean and the mountains creates uniquely different guest experiences, what truly bonds these two legendary resorts together is the unwavering commitment to world class service and facilities.”

Sea Island, which includes The Cloister, The Lodge, Cottages, and The Inn at Sea Island recently opened a new 5,000-square-foot ballroom and 63 rooms at The Cloister. This expansion provides enhanced flexibility for meetings, conferences, executive retreats, receptions and weddings and further positions the resort as an unparalleled choice for group and leisure travelers.
