Houston, TX—December 16, 2015—Today, Marriott International is pleased to announce the appointment of Scot Cotton as General Manager of the Marriott Marquis Houston. As general manager, he will ultimately be responsible for all aspects of hotel, including guest relations, front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, finances, team building, and staff development.

"Scot’s proven track record within the company has shown us that he has the experience to handle a property as unique as this," said Terri Dolan, Area Vice President of the Western Region. "With the combination of his expertise in the hospitality industry and his knowledge and enthusiasm for the Houston market, we have no doubt that the Marriott Marquis Houston will exceed all expectations.”

A 30-year veteran of Marriott International, Cotton originally joined the company as a Convention Services Manager at the Atlanta Marquis Marriott, the brand’s first hotel to hold the Marquis designation. Throughout his tenure, Cotton focused his career on sales and marketing, working his way up to leadership positions including Director of Sales at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Director of Marketing at the Portland Marriott, and Market Director of Sales for Marriott International, overseeing Arizona and Las Vegas.

In 2005 Cotton returned to the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile as Director of Marketing. Spending the next several years at the hotel, Cotton worked within a number of the hotel’s departments, including as Director of Event Management, Resident Manager, and Director of Operations. During his tenure, he was instrumental in managing the daily operations of the hotel and overseeing a $35 million renovation, and opening three new food and beverage outlets.

In 2013, seeking warmer weather and a vibrant city atmosphere, Cotton and his wife relocated to Houston where he assumed the position of General Manager of the Houston Airport Marriott. There he was recognized as “GM of the Year” for the Western Region in 2014. An active and committed community leader, Cotton has brought his leadership to the boards of the Houston CVB and the Houston Hotel Lodging Association.

“Houston is such a vibrant, exciting city,” says Cotton. “This property will play a large role in redefining Houston as both a convention and leisure destination, and to be part of the city’s evolution is truly an opportunity.”
