Mobile Bookings Surge in 2013

Reservations Booked via Mobile Devices Using the OpenView Internet Booking Engine Surpass 2013 Levels, as Presented by PhoCusWright at FITUR
DALLAS (February 3, 2014) – Mobile and tablet bookings for Pegasus client hotels made using the OpenView Internet booking engine amounted to more than 15% of all reservations in 2013. Clients of Pegasus Solutions’ web services division enjoyed a boost from the channel, surpassing the industry-wide 11% for the year, as presented by PhoCusWright at FITUR in Madrid.
“A year ago, we suggested hotels were responsible for the prevalence or lack of mobile bookings for their hotels,” said David Millili, chief executive officer of Pegasus Solutions. “That message resonated with our existing and new clients, and together we worked to increase the comfort level for mobile bookers visiting their sites. In addition to the bookings they realized in 2013, these hotels have also now established themselves as mobile-friendly among a valuable – and burgeoning, according to PhoCusWright – booking audience.”
Desktop and laptop bookings still accounted for nearly 85% of reservations, but collectively, mobile devices drove 15.04% of reservations made through the booking engine. PhoCusWright suggested Europe as a whole would reach 15% by the end of 2014. Device types used to book through OpenView included iPad, iPhone, Android, Kindle, and Windows Phone, among others.
The OpenView Internet booking engine is customized to a hotel’s design, and delivers a simple booking process in the same browser window. It facilitates bookings in multiple languages and currencies, powers dynamic pricing and packaging, as well as multi-room booking. It also supports mobile bookings, delivering functionality equal to the desktop site but tailored to the mobile booker to ensure a hotel’s site is easily bookable for any guest anywhere.
