March 29–Woodbine Development Corp. broke ground on Marriott CityPlace, its third hotel in Springwoods Village. The 10-story hotel will be the first full-service hotel in the master-planned community when it opens in November 2018.

The 337-room hotel, on the eastern end of the CityPlace mixed-use district next to CityPlace Plaza, is being developed in partnership with CDC Houston and USAA Real Estate Co.

Courtyard by Marriott Springwoods Village opened in 2016 and Residence Inn Houston Springwoods Village opened in 2015.

"We are excited to both continue our partnership with CDC Houston and USAA RealCo and expand the hospitality lineup in Springwoods Village with the addition of this full-service hotel," King Scovell, managing partner and chief development officer for Woodbine, said in an announcement.

He said the hotel would "diversify the mix of accommodations and event space available here."

Gensler designed the hotel, which is being built by Austin Commercial. Commerce Bank and Frost Bank provided financing.

The hotel will have a restaurant and 33,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor function space.

"With ExxonMobil campus, Southwestern Energy's headquarters, CHI St. Luke's hospital and planned ABS headquarters and HP campus, Springwoods Village is becoming a major employment center in north Harris County, stimulating a new hotel submarket in the area," Keith Simon, executive vice president of CDC Houston, said in a statement.

"Marriott CityPlace at Springwoods Village is the third hotel in our community, reflecting our strategy of providing a range of hotels at different price points and with different levels of service, all within walking distance to work, dining, retail and recreation facilities."

The 2,000-acre Springwoods Village is at Interstate 45, the Hardy Toll Road and the Grand Parkway just south of The Woodlands.
