Sept. 12–A hotel that's been in the works for three years is finally breaking ground in downtown Paso Robles.

Crews recently began grading a site near the corner of Fourth and Spring streets slated for Oxford Suites, a 140-room hotel that was approved by city officials in 2014.

The hotel will be built in two phases, with 100 suites, conference space, a breakfast and reception area and a fitness center to be completed first, according to a hotel news release. The second phase will include 40 more rooms and meeting space.

The hotel's project team is still in the midst of developing construction plans and applying for business permits, and it's expected to open in early 2019.

Oxford Suites is owned by OS Innco Inc., a Bend, Oregon-based hotel company with a portfolio of more than 17 properties, mostly on the West Coast and in the Pacific Northwest.

The company's Paso Robles location will be its second in San Luis Obispo County — it has another hotel on Five Cities Drive in Pismo Beach.
