Independent Review Shows Substantial Savings for Commercial Laundries Using Xeros Technology

Xeros has the most effective recovery process ever reviewed by LTC
December 7, 2015 | – A review of Xeros polymer bead cleaning technology undertaken by independent laundry industry experts LTC, has demonstrated substantial financial savings for commercial laundries.
The review compared conventional laundry processes with the innovative Xeros polymer bead cleaning technology for reclaim, where polymer beads are used in the washing process with water, to remove ingrained staining, mould, mildew and some black marks.
Comparing the linen recovery rate (the percentage of stained linen that can be washed and put back into stock) of Xeros versus the traditional acqueous process, the rate was 35.1% for Xeros versus 22.6% for the traditional process. An increase of over 50%, delivering considerable savings. The Xeros linen recovery process enables launderers to discard less linen (the "rag rate") whilst also reducing chemical damage for improved linen longevity.
LTC Director Steve Anderton explains: “As the basis for our review we used a commercial laundry business model with a rag rate of 250,000 pieces of linen per year, with 70% of that due to staining. This equates to a cost of over £500,000 a year.
“Under this business model we have calculated a possible saving of over £70,000 per year, but for a installation dedicated to duvet cover reclaim, for example, savings of over £100,000 a year are achievable.”
In an increasingly competitive environment, with rising labour and energy costs, installing just one Xeros machine could offset the expected salary impact of paying the new National Living Wage to a staff of 20, maintaining profit margins as costs increase.
Commenting on the findings, Tony Kerr European Sales and Marketing Director, Xeros Technology Group said: “This independent review by a well-respected industry body clearly demonstrates the savings that are possible by using Xeros technology compared to traditional acqueous laundry methods, with far superior cleaning results.
“Factor in lower running costs and longer lasting linens and the savings multiply even more–well worth having in today’s competitive environment.”
Xeros is changing the way textiles are cleaned. Using patented polymer bead technology, the Xeros System for commercial cleaning uses up to 80% less water, 50% less energy and approximately 50% less detergent, and delivers superior cleaning results compared to conventional washing. Xeros was recently awarded a Bronze Medal in the prestigious Edison Awards; was named a top invention by TIME magazine, winner of 'Best Technological Breakthrough' in The Climate Week Awards 2011; listed in Worldwide Fund for Nature's survey of global 'Green Game Changers'; and has been awarded two Rushlight 2013 Awards for green innovation.
