Cape Neddick, ME (September 22, 2016) – Cliff House Maine, nestled across 70 acres atop Bald Head Cliff on the southern coast of Maine, celebrates the completion of the first phase of a large-scale reinvention today. Leading investment firm Rockbridge partnered with Maine hoteliers Marc Dugas and Peter Anastos along with hotel development company RBHD to revitalize Cliff House and carry on its legacy of warmly welcoming both travelers and the local community. With a fresh look and feel, the resort captivates a modern take on authentic, Maine traditions and brings to life a highly anticipated, ground‐breaking coastal vision.
The iconic New England resort, which first welcomed guests in 1872, is inspiring a new generation of travelers with its remarkable views, upscale amenities and new enriching experiences. For the first time in its storied 144-year lifespan, the property will remain open year-round, inviting guests to experience the true essence of Southern Maine throughout the seasons.
“Cliff House has one of the most spectacular settings in all of New England,” noted Jim Merkel, Rockbridge CEO. “We are thrilled to partner with Marc and Peter. “Together, we focused on every detail during the renovation and believe the improvements seamlessly add to the charm and character of this wonderful hotel.”
The extensive renovation touched nearly every aspect of the tradition-rich resort, adding new amenities and enhancing existing features throughout, such as fully renovated guestrooms with luxurious and contemporary touches; a reconcepting of the resort’s restaurants and bars, including a classic Maine lobster shack and a feature restaurant showcasing locally-sourced cuisine; a new 4,300 square foot ballroom; and a new full-service spa and fitness center.
"We are excited to welcome guests and provide them with a special Maine escape through our regional culinary offerings, locally-inspired design features, upscale amenities and unique indoor and outdoor experiences,” said Scott Spann, General Manager of Cliff House. “In addition to these exceptional offerings that will make Cliff House New England’s most sought after coastal destination, we have built a team of truly talented and passionate people to provide genuine and devoted hospitality service. In the end, we know it’s the engagement between our team members and our guests that make all the difference, and that’s what you can expect at our Maine retreat.”
Cliff House welcomes vacationers with 132 well-appointed guest rooms, each with terraces overlooking the majestic Bald Head Cliff and expansive water views. In summer of 2017, the resort will debut additional guest rooms and suites bringing the total count to over 225. Guest room options range from the Premium Collection with enchanting fireplaces and expansive private terraces to the coveted Luxury Spa Suites located within the spa offering exclusive services and treatments. Each room boasts stylish touches and in-room offerings such as premium red flower bath amenities, coastal-inspired furnishings, intimate glass terraces with seating to enjoy the ocean, plush hooded bathrobes and luxury linens including Cuddledown comforters made locally in Maine.
Regionally Infused Cuisine
Influenced by coastal Maine flavors, the property’s innovative restaurants and bars offer guests delicious meals inspired by indigenous local products, presented with grace and style. Cliff House’s signature restaurant, The Tiller Restaurant, features a seasonal menu containing varying flavors for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Situated just beyond the double sided fireplace by The Tiller Restaurant, the Tidemark Terrace offers handcrafted cocktails along with fresh and regional dishes. Nubb’s Lobster Shack, an idyllic oceanfront retreat opening in this fall, provides guests with beloved Maine lobster rolls, fried clams, raw bar and juicy burgers, and will be open year-round with both indoor and outdoor seating, weather permitting. A selection of local craft beers from regional brewers offers a wide spectrum of session IPAs to rich seasonal porters, while cocktails are handcrafted with garden-picked ingredients.
The traditions and natural treasures of the Maine elements serve as the inspiration behind The Spa at Cliff House, a 9,000 square-foot tucked-away oasis. The Spa will open this fall, combining time-honored techniques and an array of treatments featuring four lavish product lines: Elemental Herbology, Sciote, Red Flower and Zents, which provide unparalleled renewal. Embracing “wild and free” elements of coastal Maine, the spa channels the transformative interplay of water, stone, sky and sand. The Spa at Cliff House encourages both guests of the resort as well as local residents in the area to indulge in rejuvenation.
Meetings, Events and Weddings
Introducing over 25,000 square feet of flexible indoor & outdoor meeting and event spaces, Cliff House caters to modern corporate events, meetings and unforgettable weddings. From intimate gatherings to large events, guests can choose from a selection of nine spaces including boardrooms featuring a table fastened from reclaimed Maine pine trees, an expansive coastal meeting room with private terrace, or the new Atlantic Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling ocean vistas. Ideal for corporate retreats, association seminars, conferences and nuptial gatherings, the resort accommodates business and leisure travelers. Wedding specialists and expert planning services ensure flawless events that are emblematic of coastal Maine and distinctive of the celebrants’ singular vision.
Year-Round Fun for Everyone
Guests have access to enriching year-round recreation throughout the property and in the surrounding New England coastal area. The resort offers activities to guests throughout its 70 lush acres along with an 18-hole golf course adjacent to the property. Tennis, hiking, biking, sea kayaking, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding, ice skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and helicopter tours of the lighthouses and coastlines are just examples of the thrilling activities available to guests. Travelers can make the most of the beautiful New England fall season with an array of activities at Cliff House such as corn hole tournaments, cliff cache races, harvest crafts, pumpkin games, fall baking and candy apple making. Beyond the on-property recreational activities, Cliff House is conveniently located nearby Southern Maine’s popular attractions such as Perkins Cove, Ogunquit Playhouse, Nubble Lighthouse, Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School, The Kittery Outlets, Seashore Trolley Museum and the 30,000 acres of wildlife at Mount Agamenticus.
Cliff House closed in October 2015 to undergo this large-scale transformation. The resort will further expand its upscale offerings with additional beautiful guestrooms and an adults-only pool debuting in the summer of 2017.
