April 22–Site design to resolve draining issues is currently under way at and near the north parking lot adjacent to The Center for Rural Development before construction starts on a Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

“Construction will begin as soon as these drainage issues are solve,” Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center, said this week. The hotel will be built on the north parking lot, separated from The Center by about 40 feet. The north parking lot, still in use by The Center, will be closed as soon as construction starts.

The hotel, expected to be completed by spring or summer 2016, is a project of LinGate Hospitality, an Owensboro developer that will build, own and manage the hotel as a Marriott franchise. It reportedly will have between 25 and 30 permanent employees.

“We are fortunate to work with LinGate Hospitality to build this state-of-the-art facility,” Lawson commented during a groundbreaking ceremony March 20. “The addition of a hotel on our property will allow us to attract more conferences, conventions and larger specialized events to this region.”
