Educational Institute Completes Year 2 of New High School Hospitality Program

Orlando, Florida, June 2013 -The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has announced the publication of Year 2 of its new high school curriculum, the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP). This two-year program introduces high school juniors and seniors to the hospitality and tourism industry, a high-growth career sector with a need for qualified employees. The program is delivered with graphic-rich textbooks, workbooks that give students the opportunity to apply what they've learned, and optional online coursework ideal for tech-savvy teens.
The Year 2 textbook focuses on the leadership and managerial aspects, responsibilities, knowledge, and skills required by an entry-level leader within the hospitality and tourism industry, while Year 1 concentrated on hospitality and tourism operations. In both years, students receive information on key hospitality industry experts, hospitality and tourism history and trends, green practices, diversity, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) best practices. Online resources for Year 2 include modules from EI's Supervisory Skill Builders and Front Office Manager e-learning programs.
Students who pass the exams for Years 1 and 2 of the program and complete 100 hours of internship or job hours can earn the Certified Hospitality & Tourism Management Professional (CHTMP) designation.
The Educational Institute worked with more than 60 industry leaders who served as subject matter experts to ensure that the curriculum matches the needs of hospitality employers across the world. In addition, high school educators added their insight into the features that would make the program attractive to state and district educational bodies-such as the alignment of content to the Common Core State Standards and correlation to the job-specific technical skills outlined in the Hospitality & Tourism Career Cluster.
Response to the new program from reviewers has been overwhelmingly positive. Lisa Perras, a high school teacher at Mountain View Academy, New Hampshire, said, "Everything has looked amazing. I am blown away by the quality of the design work in the text chapters. It is an excellent piece of work and I am looking forward to its publication." Peter Ricci, Ed.D., CHA, CHSE, CRME, director of the Hospitality Management Program at Florida Atlantic University, commented, "The readability is very nice. It has a LOT of information, but I found it just the right coverage for a young group without them becoming overwhelmed." Dr. Michelle Aldrich, FACS teacher at Triumph High School, Wyoming, stated, "Chapter 10 is outstanding! As a teacher who runs a school-based catering business, I am impressed, and I learned new information that will benefit our school-based catering business!"
