WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 15, 2018The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) today praised the U.S. House of Representatives for passing H.R. 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017. The bipartisan bill, sponsored by Representatives Ted Poe (R-Texas 2) and Scott Peters (D-California 52), strengthens the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by ensuring compliance and providing businesses a defined timeframe to identify and correct potential violations.

The following is a statement from Brian Crawford, Senior Vice President and head of government affairs at AHLA.

“As hoteliers, our mission is to make every guest feel comfortable and welcome. Our industry is committed to ensuring all individuals have access to our facilities. We strongly support the Americans with Disabilities Act, and our industry has worked diligently to ensure our properties are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

“Unfortunately, some bad actors have exploited the ADA for personal financial gain with no corresponding benefit for the disability community. AHLA strongly supports the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017, which will give businesses the opportunity to identify and correct a potential infraction, while also advancing the cause of accessibility.

“AHLA thanks Congressman Poe and Congressman Peters for their leadership, and to all the Representatives who voted in favor of this common-sense law.”
