April 5, 2016 – AccorHotels is adding two flagships to its portfolio. Besides cementing its unchallenged leadership, the Group is tapping into two new opportunities in the Luxury and Upscale segments by opening the Hotel Santa Teresa Rio de Janeiro MGallery by Sofitel and MamaShelter Rio de Janeiro… Bem-vindos à cidade maravilhosa!

Both brands have chosen to open hotels in Rio de Janeiro’s trendy Santa Teresa district. And it’s anything but a coincidence.

This bohemian district has contributed a lot to the marvelous city’s artistic and musical heritage. It is perched on a hill overlooking the metropolis, and packed with breathtaking vistas, walls clad in graffiti bursting with colors, intact Art Deco buildings, mosaic-bedecked parks and countless other attractions.

And our two new hotels are brimming with this distinctive atmosphere.

Bohemian-chic style

Bohemian-chic is all about enjoying a slow-paced and perchance roving life, and most importantly keeping an open mind and enthusiastically embracing new experiences. And the brand-new Hotel Santa Teresa Rio de Janeiro MGallery by Sofitel, which opened on March 19th 2016, is all of that.

This atmosphere, which Cariocas cherish, steeps every detail in this amazing hotel where Brazilian artists and designers added the final touches.

The lighting, color contrasts and warm natural materials intertwine into cozy moods. Everything about this place is exotic and soothing – starting with the super-king-size beds in the 43 rooms, spa, swimming pool with a panoramic view, and jacuzzi.

A cultural hotspot

MGallery hotels the world over know how to thrill its guests’ taste buds when they are on a quest for the latest culinary trends or epicurean adventures. And the Hotel Santa Teresa Rio de Janeiro MGallery by Sofitel does that tradition proud: at is Tereze restaurant, Argentine chef Pablo Ferreyra treats his patrons to up-to-the-minute flavors mingled with Brazilian mainstays, which they can enjoy with a panoramic view of the unbelievable Guanabara Bay in the background!

Santa Teresa is also well known for its vibrant artistic spirit and provides the perfect backdrop for the countless festivities and street parties that flare up impromptu all year round. The Hotel Santa Teresa Rio de Janeiro MGallery by Sofitel is keen on deepening its ties and partnerships with the city’s many cultural organizations and communities.

The next step…

The much-anticipated inauguration of the first ever MamaShelter! It will be the brand’s first hotel in Brazil, and a fitting example of MamaShelter’s aim to expand its distinctive take on hospitality into new horizons.

“We really wanted to bring these two brands to Brazil, and in Santa Teresa we found the perfect opportunity. The ‘tropical chic’ style fits perfectly in the spirit of MGallery by Sofitel and Mama Shelter, rather resembling the Montmartre in Paris, due to the large number of artists who have studios and live in the area. The cultural, culinary and modern environment also adapt perfectly to the public,” said Patrick Mendes, CEO of AccorHotels South America. “We will bring the distribution and digital structure of the AccorHotels group, always assuring a sustainable market and development that is harmonious with this emblematic neighborhood of Rio culture.

These two new hotels in Rio de Janeiro confirm AccorHotels’ leadership in the city hosting the upcoming Olympic Games. It has 28 hotels in operation and 5 in its pipeline, which are scheduled to open between now and the end of the year.
