| Dennis P. Gemberling CHA, CFBE, FMP, FCSI
is founder and president of The Perry Group, a consortium of
hospitality professionals, providing interim management, consulting and
expert services exclusively to the lodging, foodservice, resort, gaming
and club industry. A graduate of several lodging and foodservice
management programs, he has earned the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA)
and Certified Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE) designations through the
American Hotel and Motel Association and Certified Foodservice Management
Professional (FMP) through the National Restaurant Association. He is also
a professional member of Foodservice Consultants Society International
(FCSI) and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
A resident of San Francisco, Mr. Gemberling began his business career
with a Pennsylvania country club in 1963, concentrating on foodservice
and private club activities. Later, he moved into hotel and restaurant
management with Hotel Valley Forge and CPC International (Dutch Pantry
Restaurants). He then opened and managed a first class, 224 room
Holiday Inn in downtown Washington, DC as Food and Beverage Director and
later joined Ramada, Inc. in 1977. There he was Director of Food
and Beverage and General Manager for several of the company's East Coast
and Mid-Western states' properties. His work for Ramada earned him
the system's "Top 10 Hotels Award" in recognition of his skills in managing
every department within a hotel and food and beverage complex. In
1983, he joined the Halloran Plaza as General Manager to manage and direct
the renovation of this multiple restaurant, banquet, night club and convention
center in New Jersey. He moved to Hotel Properties of America (Oppenheimer
& Company) as General Manager of the historic 450 room San Franciscan
Hotel in San Francisco, California in 1984. His responsibilities
also included trouble-shooting, marketing and financial administration
for their four other West Coast hotels and resorts, comprising another
550 rooms, in Bakersfield, Concord, Palm Springs and San Francisco.
Afterwards, he became Senior Vice President of Signature Hospitality Group
(Signature Hotels Corporation), a Phoenix, Arizona company specializing
in resort and hospitality management services.
Recognizing the need for results-oriented and cost-effective management
consulting services to the expanding foodservice and lodging industry,
Mr. Gemberling formed The Perry Group in 1985. Recent engagements include
acquisitions, due diligence, on and off-site interim management, pre-openings,
turnarounds, trouble-shooting, restructuring and dispositions. Also, the
firm provides arbitration, bankruptcy and litigation support and expert
testimony.
His clients include over two hundred developers, government agencies,
investor groups, lenders, owners, and other legal and real estate organizations.
Typical projects include limited and full-service, independent and chain
hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants, bars, casinos and clubs the United
States, Mexico and Canada.
