Unique Hotels Casa Madrona Small Luxury Hotel In The Heart Of Sausalito, Adds New Guestrooms, A Full Service Spa And A Mediterranean Restaurant And Bar |
SAUSALITO, CALIFORNIA -OCTOBER 2000 - Unique Hotels Casa Madrona in
Sausalito, California, has begun its plans for expansion. The plans include
the addition of 31 spacious guest rooms, the creation of a tranquil Full
Service Spa, and the introduction of an exciting Mediterranean restaurant.
The expansion will add an entire new wing to the Hotel. with minimal changes
to the original design and architecture that has made Casa Madrona a favorite
for both leisure and business travelers.
Architect Hannum Associates from San Francisco will be creating an area for retail space on the first floor of the new building for four stores, approximately 1100 square feet each. The second floor will contain the new restaurant and bar. Designer Bob Puccini is creating a Mediterranean Seafood Restaurant with old World charm. There will be outside tables, for a sidewalk cafe feel, and full views of the bay inside and out. The restaurant will seat 165 people . The bar area will be tucked into the back, creating a small, intimate and cozy place to have a drink. One guest room will be located on the first floor with full handicapped access. The third floor will encompass nine guest rooms, the Spa and private treatment rooms. Twenty-one additional guest rooms will be located on the fourth floor. Hirsch Bedner Associates in Santa Monica explains the look as California Spa Chic, a relaxed atmosphere that is soft, inviting and romantic. The guest rooms will feature high ceilings, Jacuzzi tubs in bathrooms that open up into the bedrooms, comfortable oversized furniture, four-poster canopy beds with big down quilts, soft, inviting light fabrics with dark wood furniture. Many of the suites have wood burning fireplaces. The Spa area is similar in look and feel with oversized furniture and stone floors. The treatment rooms surround a large, open courtyard, and many of the rooms actually open out onto the courtyard. Phase I will be completed by late summer, 2001. At that time, Casa Madrona will consist of 65 guest rooms and suites. Phase II will be completed by mid 2002, with the creation of seven more guest rooms where the current Mikayla restaurant and kitchen are located in the Victoria House. When renovations are complete, Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa will consist of a grand total of 72 outstanding guest rooms and suites. The original part of the Casa Madrona Hotel was built in1885 as a private
residence. In 1896, a devastating fire demolished most of Sausalito. The
original building was one of just a few homes that survived. This disaster
brought on a housing shortage for people living in Sausalito and Casa Madrona
was turned into a rooming house.
Guests at Casa Madrona enjoy a wonderful breakfast every morning as well as a wine and cheese social each evening. There's also a private spa that guests may reserve on the hour. Guests interested in having a massage may do so in the privacy on their room for an additional charge. Also, in the summer and spring months, guests may embark on a sunset sail on a 42' catamaran, "Apparition," that sails each evening out on the bay and enjoy a lovely bottle of wine as the sunsets under the Golden Gate Bridge.
