   Amerihost Properties Changes Name to
Arlington Hospitality;
Due to Sale of the AmeriHost Inn® Hotel Brand Name and
Franchising Rights to Cendant Corporation
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS, October 20, 2000Amerihost Properties, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM: HOST) today announced that it will immediately start to do business as Arlington Hospitality, Inc.  The Company has already officially changed the name of its operating subsidiaries from Amerihost to Arlington Hospitality.  However, the parent, Amerihost Properties, Inc., will not legally change its name until the next regularly scheduled shareholders meeting, subject to shareholder approval.

The Companys web site has also changed to www.arlingtonhospitality.com.

According to President and CEO, Michael P. Holtz, "Our name change was the result of the recent sale of the AmeriHost Inn® hotel brand name and franchising rights to Cendant Corporation.  To avoid confusion going forward as we develop the AmeriHost Inn® brand with Cendant, and as part of our agreement with Cendant, we have changed our name to Arlington Hospitality, Inc.  Our symbol on Nasdaq: HOST will remain the same.  In addition, the names of our hotels will remain as AmeriHost Inn® hotels and operate under a franchise agreement with Cendant.

Arlington Hospitality, Inc. is a hotel development and management company that owns, builds and manages mid-priced hotels.  Currently, Arlington manages 83 properties (with an ownership position in 80 of these hotels) in 18 states, including 70 AmeriHost Inn® hotels, for a total of 6,322 rooms.  An additional two AmeriHost Inn® hotels are currently under construction in Ohio.  Arlington Hospitality, Inc. (formerly Amerihost Properties, Inc.) founded the AmeriHost Inn® hotel brand in 1989, and in September 2000, sold the brand and its franchising rights to Cendant Corporation.

Statements about future results made in this release may constitute forward-looking statements within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995.

Amerihost/Arlington
Company Background

In 1987, the Company opened its first hotel as a Days Inn in Sullivan, Indiana. Over the next few years, the Company acquired distressed hotels in secondary and tertiary markets. These hotels then were renovated, repositioned in their market and opened under various franchise affiliations such as Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn and Days Inn.

During that time, Amerihost/Arlington did extensive market research and found that guests were most disappointed with the inconsistency of the hotel industry. For example, a guest would stay at a hotel brand location and enjoy an indoor pool and a sauna. However, when the guest would stay at the same branded hotel at another location, that hotel would not have an indoor pool or a sauna. Therefore, the expectations of this
guest were not met. These inconsistencies have frustrated both business and leisure travelers alike.

As a result, Amerihost/Arlington created the AmeriHost Inn® hotel brand - a brand that offers absolute consistency. Every AmeriHost Inn hotel has the same guest services and amenity package regardless of its location. If you have stayed at one AmeriHost Inn hotel, you have stayed at them all.

Amerihost/Arlington opened its first AmeriHost Inn hotel in Athens, Ohio in 1989. Since then, Amerihost/Arlingtons focus has been the rapid expansion of the AmeriHost Inn brand. The Company has grown from one AmeriHost Inn hotel in 1989 to 70 AmeriHost Inn hotels open through September 30, 2000.

In an effort to grow the brand more quickly, Amerihost / Arlington sold the franchising rights of the AmeriHost Inn
and AmeriHost Inn & Suites hotel brands to the Cendant Corporation of Parsippany, NJ, September 30, 2000.

The sale of the brand franchising rights also included a parent company name change for Amerihost/Arlington Properties, Inc. Effective in 2001 after the approval from its shareholders at the annual shareholder meeting, Arlington Properties, Inc. will officially become Arlington Hospitality, Inc.

Amerihost/Arlington is currently Cendants largest AmeriHost Inn hotel franchisee, with 70 Amerihost Inn hotels in 16 states. The company plans to continue building an additional 10-20 AmeriHost Inn hotels annually. Amerihost/Arlington owns and/or manages a total of 83 hotels with 6322 rooms in 18 states. In addition to the 70 AmeriHost Inn hotels, there are 13 hotels with franchise affiliations such as Ramada, Holiday Inn, Days Inn and Howard Johnson Express.
