McMahons background makes her the
ideal leader of this refurbished gem
PITTSBURGH, PA. November 2000 The redevelopment
of the 93-year-old landmark Fulton Building into the upscale Renaissance
Pittsburgh Hotel scheduled to open in Spring 2001, is Barbara McMahons
most exciting professional assignment to date. To be an integral part
of Pittsburghs third Renaissance, says McMahon, ensuring that the integrity
associated with [Denver-based hotel developer] Sage Hospitality Resources
magnificent renovation to this Pittsburgh gem is maintained, while providing
our customers with 4-star service within the most current facilities in
a unique environment: this is my goal, and our commitment. Sage Hospitality
Resources is developer/manager and co-owner with Hexagon Investments.
Since
1973, when she began her career as a corporate management trainee at the
New York Sheraton, Barbara recognized that her future success would revolve
around being receptive and responsive to input from every customer and
stakeholder, and meeting their requests in an individualized way. Barbaras
core business philosophy reflects the Renaissance brands positioning,
and provides the foundation for developing the new hotels key message:
For travelers who prize their individuality.
In todays changing business world and through
a shrinking globe, customers are more service savvy with advances like
the Internet and other information portals, observes McMahon. General
business has shifted from producer-driven to consumer-driven. From the
early days and throughout my career in the hospitality industry, I have
come to embrace and implement this philosophy.
In Pittsburgh,
McMahon managed operations at Hyatt Pittsburgh at Chatham Center, Pittsburgh
Green Tree Marriott, Pittsburgh Airport Marriott and Pittsburgh Marriott
City Center, and as Vice President of Human Resources for Interstate Hotels
Corporation. For her outstanding performance in achieving significant customer,
financial and associate results, she was recognized as Marriott International
General Manager of the Year in 1989, and in 1998 received the coveted Interstate
Hotels David Ling Award.
Barbara is a recent recipient of the prestigious
Carlow College Women of Spirit Award. Colleagues and acquaintances agree,
she is a true Renaissance woman.
When the 300-room hotel opens in the first quarter
of 2001, the century-old dream of the original Fulton Building architect,
Grosvenor Atterbury, will finally be realized. The Renaissance Pittsburgh
Hotel will offer all the services and amenities of a full-service hotel
with the personalization and ambiance of a boutique. We are not a boutique
hotel brand, says General Manager Barbara McMahon, although we will try
to convey that feeling through our artwork, restaurants, décor,
use of space and special services.

Sage Hospitality Resources Recognized
by Marriott Lodging for Excellence in Construction and Hotel Opening
(May 2000) Denver-based hotel developer and management
company Sage Hospitality Resources, LLC (Sage) was awarded the Best Hotel
Opening and the Construction Excellence Award for their TownePlace Suites
located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Sages Colorado Springs property was selected out of 46
TownePlace Suites openings in 1999 for exceeding Marriott brand standards.
To be considered for this award the hotel staff had to be well trained,
ready to provide excellent service and surpass Marriotts rigorous guidelines,
upon the arrival of the franchise opening team. Sage and the Colorado
Springs team proved to be the best ever.
The project was also recognized for Excellence in Construction.
The hotel was 100% ready to accept guests upon opening. Throughout
construction, the Sage team was dedicated to constantly checking every
phase of development in partnership with Mortenson Construction.
Sage is unique in its position of being both developer and manager of the
hotel. This translates into having a strong, cohesive team from groundbreaking
to opening. Additionally Sages opening team has extensive operations
experience in knowing and understanding guest expectations, which is the
formula for a successful hotel opening.
The Colorado Springs hotel is just one of seven TownePlace
Suites by Marriott to be developed and managed by Sage along the Colorado
front range. |
