Hotelier Donald Timbie Retires from
The Argent Hotel, San Francisco
Known for his 13 years of accomplishments at San Franciscos
landmark Palace Hotel, Timbie moved to The Argent in 1998
San Francisco, Calif. November 21, 2000 - After a successful 38-year career, hotelier Donald Timbie has announced his retirement from The Argent Hotel.  Known for his 13 years of accomplishments at San Franciscos landmark Palace Hotel, Timbie moved to The Argent in 1998 where he became a major force behind the repositioning of the property.

Timbie has long been active in the San Francisco community and the tourism industry at large. He holds board positions with the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, University of San Francisco, the Downtown Association, and the Multi Employer Group.  His strong relationships with the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau and the local unions have allowed for great strides in the tourism industry while strengthening the relationships among San Franciscos hotel employees.

Timbie looks forward to continuing some of his community involvement, while spending more time with his family.  He attributes his greatest career accomplishment as keeping his business life and personal relationships apart, resulting in a strong marriage of over 27 years.

Mark Hickey, Senior Vice President of Operations for Destination Hotels and Resorts, The Argents management company, says Timbies knowledge of the local market and his strong community ties have contributed to the success of The Argent.  Over the past two years, Don Timbie has helped the Argent to successfully establish itself in the San Francisco market, where competition is fierce.  That, along with his sincere community involvement, is certainly recognized and appreciated.  He will be missed, says Hickey.

Effective January 1, 2001, The Argent will welcome Paul Ratchford as Managing Director for the property.  Ratchford, too, a well-respected member of the hospitality industry, comes from the Argents sister property, The Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite.  Like Timbie, Ratchford has made great strides in serving the community.

Ratchford has been praised for his leadership not only in the Yosemite community, but also at Tenaya Lodge.  Over the past seven-and-a-half years, his leadership has helped position Tenaya as one of the leading resorts in the High Sierras.

With every end there is a beginning and were pleased to introduce San Francisco to Paul.  Were very proud of his accomplishments and believe he will be a positive contribution not only to The Argent, but also to the City. Hickey said of Ratchfords new appointment.

Ratchford will directly oversee all facets of the 667-room Argent Hotel while continuing the positioning of the property in the San Francisco market.  Prior to joining Destination Hotels and Resorts, Ratchford held positions with the Pala Mesa Resort in San Diego, Ritz Carlton and Hyatt Hotels.

The Argent is part of a family of properties managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts.  Each of the over 30 distinctive, well-situated Destination Hotels & Resorts properties offer exceptional recreational opportunities and conference facilities.  Properties include the Hotel del Coronado near San Diego; Inverness Hotel & Golf Club near Denver; the Monarch Hotel in Washington D.C.; Royal Palms Hotel & Casitas in Phoenix; Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, S.C.; Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon; and Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite, California.
