UniFocus' Acquisition of Telman Now Provides the First
Hospitality Industry “Balanced Scorecard” Integrating
Real-time Information About Customer and Employee
Satisfaction, Revenues, Labor Costs and More
DALLAS — December 21, 2000 — Dallas-based UniFocus, the most comprehensive performance management firm in the hospitality industry, recently acquired Houston-based Telman® Software, further enhancing UniFocus’ real-time, dynamic information systems.  UniFocus has integrated Telman’s financial expertise and Focused Scorecard® database into its own systems, rolling out a new online, 3-D “data cube” and other e-based services to UniFocus clients in December 2000 and early 2001.

Telman adds revenue and profitability information to UniFocus’ customer and employee satisfaction data, rounding out its “Balanced Scorecard” approach to measurement systems development.  With the acquisition, UniFocus’ Watson RMTM labor software system will also add budgeting, time and attendance, payroll and human resource modules to its Forecaster™, Planner™ and Scheduler™ product lines, fully integrating the entire labor management cycle.

With the addition of Telman’s software technology, UniFocus will split into two divisions: the Prophet™ division, which develops and correlates key operational and performance measurements into predictive factors; and The Watson RM division, which focuses on operating systems that manage a service organization’s most costly resource – labor.

“Our new technological capabilities are an invaluable tool for preserving and promoting asset value,” said Mark Heymann, managing partner of UniFocus.  “Our Prophet technology delivers critical, multi-dimensional knowledge to key decision-makers in real-time so they can quickly assess their performance, respond to customer needs, address employee concerns and improve the bottom line.  Watson RM now has the capability to address all employee - related management issues, from hiring to appropriate allocation of staff and measurement of results.”

Dynamic Data Mining and the Web-Based “Data Cube”

The acquisition of Telman allows UniFocus to offer its clients the first hospitality industry “Balanced Scorecard” integrating real-time, dynamic information about customer and employee satisfaction, revenues, labor costs, retention data and financial information.  UniFocus clients can view this information on a dedicated Web site, and can manipulate their view of the data via a multi-dimensional cube utilizing online analytical processing (OLAP) technology.  In the “data cube,” UniFocus clients can also assess their performance against a set of benchmarks that the client selects.  With its unparalleled, proprietary industry database, UniFocus offers the leading hospitality industry system for measuring organizational underperformance and success.

Cutting-Edge Predictive Capabilities

The addition of Telman’s technology and data assessment methods also enables UniFocus accurately to predict future bottom line results, projecting month-end and year-end outcomes well before the end of a given term.  These predictions allow UniFocus clients to foresee problems and to find solutions before service deficiencies become economic liabilities.  UniFocus’ proprietary industry database ensures that UniFocus can predict likely economic outcomes with greater certainty than any other hospitality performance management company.

Real-Time Data Delivery and “On the Fly” Web Survey Customization

UniFocus has also introduced new real-time notification capabilities, providing the most critical information at lightning speed to UniFocus clients.  Rather than waiting for day-end or month-end reports, UniFocus clients can now receive information on potential service shortcomings instantly via personal digital assistant (PDA), cell phone or e-mail.  UniFocus’ DAYScope™ software also offers clients real-time report delivery through a dedicated Web site incorporating electronic and/or paper surveys that the client scans on-site.
As UniFocus clients receive notification of potential service challenges, they can also customize their UniFocus Web-based surveys “on the fly” to query current customers about hot button issues.  This creation of customized Web surveys pinpoints service issues immediately, further improving the chances of a successful, timely remedy.

Serving the hospitality, restaurant and gaming industries in the United States and overseas, UniFocus offers full-service performance management analysis, systems, information and training to assist businesses in reaching optimum staff performance and customer satisfaction.  With a combination of leading-edge technology, experienced hotel, casino and restaurant industry consultants and proprietary comparative data, UniFocus assists its clients in obtaining real-time, balanced performance information that enables them to enhance overall bottom line results.
