COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 23, 2000 - The Ohio Department
of Developments (ODOD) Division of Travel and Tourism today released statistics
detailing the tourism industrys impact on Ohios economy in 1999.
The statistics are a result of a new, integrated consumer-based research
model that will enable the Division to better identify and market to the
states visitors.
Direct visitor spending and employment figures are essential factors to consider when evaluating the importance of travel and tourism to Ohios economy, State Development Director C. Lee Johnson said. In addition, we must consider the indirect benefits that result from this important industry. By contributing to the outstanding quality of life that has become Ohios hallmark, our leisure destinations play an essential role in shaping Ohios business climate. According to the report, conducted by Longwoods International:
detailed information on the Ohio tourism industry, including economic impact, visitor profile, image, advertising awareness/effectiveness and return on investment. This model helps us measure the importance of tourism to the states economy, while capturing critical visitor profile information that will assist the Division with its marketing efforts, State Tourism Director Jim Epperson said. |
