The HamptonTM  Brand�s Portfolio 
Grows to 1,034 Hotels 

MEMPHIS, Tenn., August 10, 2000 � Hamptontm, the national chain of mid-priced Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites hotels, today announced the addition of eight new hotels across six states during the month of July, with three properties opening in Ohio.  These franchised properties include five Hampton Inn hotels and three Hampton Inn & Suite hotels, bringing the total number of hotels in the brand�s portfolio to 1,034 hotels as of July 31, 2000.

�The Hampton Inn brands continue to attract hotel developers in both the United States and Canada,� said Phil Cordell, Hampton senior vice president, brand management.  �We have become a preferred moderately-priced hotel brand for both travelers and developers as testified to by the recent opening of our 1,000th hotel.  Being a member of the Hilton family of brands has had a positive impact upon brand growth, providing us with new programs such as Hilton HHonors, which had brought additional marketing punch to an already successful hotel brand.�

�Having opened 50 hotels during the first half of this year, we plan to add that many more to the brand�s portfolio by year end,� said Cordell.  �With the recent introduction of our new Hampton Inn & Suites prototype, we believe we will exceed our own development expectations.  This year we have already opened 15 Hampton Inn & Suites properties, and we are on track to continue that pace of growth in the months to come.� 

As the popularity of both Hampton brands continues to thrive in the Southeastern, Northeastern and Mid-United States, the brand also is increasing its development focus on growing its presence in the West.  �Currently, we have more than 240 properties open west of the Mississippi.  With a strong sales and development team under Hilton Hotels Corporation and new development strategy in place, we plan to double our presence in the western region in the next three years.   In addition, we continue to see significant opportunities for development on the East Coast,� added Cordell.
