WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 31, 2000 - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced today that it will manage The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, Dana Point, California, increasing the number of St. Regis hotels worldwide to nine.  It will also be the second St. Regis hotel to be located in California, following the recent announcement of The St. Regis, Los Angeles, which will open in the Fall of 2000.  The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort is a $240 million project that is part of the $337 million, 200-acre development that includes the Monarch Links Golf Course and 70 luxury homes, and Orange Countys first luxury property to be constructed in 16 years.  It is also the first-ever St. Regis beach resort.

The announcement was made today by Starwood in conjunction with developer Capital Pacific Holdings, Inc., a Newport Beach, Calif.-based real estate investment and development company with operations in California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona and Texas.

There are now nine St. Regis hotels, all named for the 1904 Beaux Arts landmark hotel in New York City, which was built by Col. John Jacob Astor. The legendary flagship is consistently ranked as one of the worlds finest.  There also are St. Regis hotels in Aspen, Beijing, Houston, Rome and Washington, D.C.  The St. Regis, Los Angeles will open this Fall and The St. Regis Shanghai is scheduled for completion in 2002.  Each is unique to its surroundings, and each offers guests a high level of customized service.

Scheduled to open in the Summer/Fall of 2001, The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort will be Californias only coastal resort offering a world-class hotel with:
