The plans contemplate an approximately $60 million expansion of the Tribe's existing Spotlight 29 Casino to include expanded gaming, hotel, restaurants and other amenities. The Twenty-Nine Palms land and existing facility are located directly off I-10 in the Coachella Valley, twenty minutes from Palm Springs, with convenient access from the other communities in surrounding Riverside County, as well as Los Angeles and Phoenix.
 

CHEMEHUEVI INDIANS  Twenty-Nine Palms Band Of Mission Indians

The Chemehuevi Indians are children of the Wolf, the holy person that molded them into being. The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians are descendants of the Chemehuevi Indians. The Chemehuevi ancestors were a creative and peaceful nomadic tribe that was at home in Southern Nevada, Utah and Arizona. They came from the Colorado River Valley and settled into the more remote areas of the Mojave Desert in the mid-1800's. The Twenty-Nine Palms Band was named for the Chemehuevi, who settled at the Oasis of Twenty-Nine Palms (now the Oasis of Mara) in 1867.  The band remained migratory, spending about three months of the year at the Oasis and following the Pinon harvest to Bear Valley plus the fruit harvest to Banning and Indio for  the rest of the time.  Members of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians have demonstrated time and time again that they are as strong and wise as the Wolf and in spite of all the hardships which have beset them during the last century they have never lost their sense of humor - a trait that has helped them survive as the Coyote has survived.
