International Expansion a Key to Growth
Phoenix, Jan. 28, 2000 - Best Western International, which already lays claim as the worlds largest single hotel brand, recently added its 4,000th member.

This is quite a milestone for us, explains Jim Evans, president and ceo of Best Western International.  Although growth is not the sole indicator of a companys success, it is certainly a benchmark that clearly indicates long-term value and consumer acceptance.

Best Western wrapped up 1999 with 313,247 rooms in 4,037 properties in 84 countries and territories.  These hotels represent a growth of 233 properties and 12,299 rooms for the year along with an addition of six new countries to the companys international portfolio.

Best Western Focuses on International Expansion

PHOENIX, Jan. 28, 2000With the merger with UK-based Consort Hotels finalized this month, Best Western International will offer more than 4,100 hotels around the globe.  Continued international expansion has become a key focus for executives of the worlds single largest lodging brand.

In 1999, Best Western made first-time ventures into such countries as French Guiana, Tunisia, Lebanon, Romania, Nepal, Poland, Nicaragua and Peru and has reentered into business in Vietnam.

Wrapping up 1999 and on into 2000, the companys continued focus will be development efforts primarily in Southeast Asia and South America.  Recently, Best Western opened its first hotels in China and welcomed four new hotels in Japan.  In South America, Best Western added 14 new hotels last year alone.

We are adding sales offices in Southeast Asia to help in our expansion efforts, says Jim Evans, president and ceo of Best Western.  We are also in the final stages of completing our new Asian Central Reservations Office located in Sydney, Australia to assist in the increased reservation traffic from that area of the world.

The continued growth of the brand is a testament to the new stewardship of president and ceo Jim Evans and the appeal of the democratic nature of the 53-year-old lodging giant.
