$7 Million Spa at The Hotel Hershey
--
New Sports Bar at The Hershey Lodge and Convention Center

HERSHEY, PA October 12, 1999  - Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company unveiled details for the construction and development of a full-service spa at The Hotel Hershey.  The $7 million, 17,000 square foot spa is being created by world-renowned designer TAG Galyean of The TAG Studio, in a collaborative effort with Earl Swensson Associates (ESa), the architects of record and interior designers. A Fall 2000 opening is planned.

General Manager Maarten van Wijk said, With The Spa at The Hotel Hershey, indulgence will take on a whole new meaning.  We have assembled a team who has developed some of the finest spas in the country to bring us to the next plateau in luxury hotels.  You will not find a more unique experience at any other spa; we will truly change your point of view with The Spa at The Hotel Hershey.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Kim Schaller made note, "The Spa at The Hotel Hershey is yet another opportunity to bring a part of the rich history of Hershey into our operations.  We were thrilled that this seasoned team was inspired by Mr. Hershey's mansion and Mrs. Hershey's cherished rose -- both of these elements significantly highlight what's unique about this exciting new project."

By incorporating the history and spirit that is truly Hershey, TAG Galyean and ESa have created a luxury spa with signature treatments and amenities that will be unmatched by any other resort.

The Spa at The Hotel Hershey will incorporate the elegant, clean lines of the Mediterranean style of The Hotel Hershey, as well as take generous advantage of views of the formal gardens, said Ron Lustig, AIA, ISHC, principal design architect, ESa.

Lustig continued, The estate home ambiance of High Point mansion, the home of Milton and Catharine Hershey, will be replicated with some of the mansions noted features and finishes, including stained glass windows, marble landings, hardwood floors, pecan paneling and arched palladian windows.

The Spa at The Hotel Hershey will encompass three floors, and will be located between the West Wing and the main building of the hotel.  A brand-new fitness center will occupy the first floor of the facility; renovations to the existing indoor pool are planned as part of the new fitness center.

The spa will contain a total of 11 massage rooms, four wet treatment rooms, four soaking tubs, two signature showers, two steam rooms, an inhalation room, two facial rooms, three pedicure, two manicure and two hair-styling stations.  The two signature showers will provide one-of-a-kind relaxing Hershey hydro treatment.

Of the four wet treatment rooms, one is a European hydrotherapy tub, and three will be used for a combination of signature body wraps, body polishes, and body scrubs.  Two of the three combination rooms will contain Vichy showers.

The third floor of the spa will also contain a quiet room where guests will relax after their treatments and be afforded peaceful views of the formal gardens of The Hotel Hershey, as well as the mountain ranges beyond.

The TAG Studio, led by principal TAG Galyean, is recognized as the leader in luxury resort spa concept development, having designed The Greenbrier Spa in West Virginia, The Broadmoor Spa in Colorado Springs, Casa Palmera Spa at Pebble Beach, and The La Quinta Spa in Palm Springs.  The TAG Studio limits its spa design to two worthy properties per year, where ownership is committed to the authentic feel good relaxing goals established by TAG Galyean.  Since 1990, The TAG Studio has worked collaboratively with Monica Tuma Brown as spa consultant.  This relationship has allowed The TAG Studio to extend its knowledge and creative insights into the relationships of guest pleasure and proven spa therapeutics.

Galyean commented, One of my driving principles is that the resorts I work with be exceptional properties, independently managed by nice people.  When I came to Hershey, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the land, the caliber of the people, and the matchless legacy left by Milton Hershey.  We are creating an undeniable attraction to complement the existing resort.

Earl Swensson Associates, Inc. has been involved in the research and design of hospitality facilities across the country for 35 years.  Some of the firms projects include collaborating on the master plan of The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, and all four phases of construction at Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.  This is the second spa on which ESa has worked collaboratively with TAG Galyean; The Broadmoor Spa in Colorado Springs was the first.

The Hotel Hershey is one of Americas landmark historic hotels.  Famous for its majestic Mediterranean architecture and décor, the AAA Four-Diamond rated hotel offers several excellent dining options, including the famous Circular Dining Room, as well as 72 holes of championship golf, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness and exercise facilities and other recreational activities.  For other information call 1-800-HERSHEY or visit the destinations website at www.HersheyPA.com.

Sports Bar at The Hershey Lodge and Convention Center
HERSHEY, PA Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company announces the opening of The Bears Den, A Sports Bar in January 2000 at The Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.

The Bears Den, A Sports Bar is a 5,000-square-foot, 200-person capacity sports bar, themed around the American Hockey Leagues oldest, continuously operating franchise, The Hershey Bears.

The focal point of The Bears Den is a 9x 12 video wall above the bar.  This particular video wall has the capability to be viewed as either one large screen, or can be broken into four separate images.  An additional 28 television monitors are mounted throughout the facility.

There are many features that set The Bears Den apart from other area sports bars.  From the  9 x 12 video wall to the themed interior design, The Bears Den also draws on the rich history of The Hershey Bears hockey team and Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The physical placement of The Bears Den, A Sports Bar at The Hershey Lodge and Convention Center allowed us to carry that themed concept all the way through to even creating a cave effect at its lobby entrance.  Stone covers the face of the entry, and the foyer will have faux painted stone walls and a floor stained to mimic the dirt floor of a cave, said Ronald Lustig, AIA, ISHC, principal design architect, Earl Swensson Associates (ESa).  ESa is the sports bars interior designer.

Lustig continued, Memorabilia displays will progressively lead patrons inward toward the dining and bar areas, which have all the visual elements of an actual hockey rink.  An ice effect will be achieved with special floor treatment.  Stadium seating, tabletops that look like hockey pucks, a broadcast booth and dasher boards will all contribute to the themed atmosphere.  Fifteen 36 television screens located throughout the facility will permit clear viewing of sports events from every angle.  Its going to be a stimulating destination environment that will be a real tribute to the Hershey Bears.

A broadcast booth will be located inside the facility, from which many activities can take place, including David Mishkins Bud Light Monday Night Face-Off.  Mishkin, better known as The Voice of The Bears, will broadcast his show every Monday evening from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on 92.1 WTPA-FM.

The architect of record for The Bears Den is Integrated Building Arts (IBA), A Benatec Company.  The Bears Den project is led by Mark Weaver, R.A., Senior Architect for IBA.

The Bears Den was named to create a direct link between the history of The Hershey Bears hockey team, and the Bears Den which exists in the Hersheypark Arena.  The Hersheypark Arena Bears Den is a historic showcase, home to hundreds of autographed photos of celebrities who have performed over the years at Hersheypark and Hersheypark Arena.  The array of celebrities featured on its walls is a prime center of curiosity and a testament to Hersheys entertainment history.

The Bears Den was created in an effort to meet the demand for a quality, casual meeting place for both guests of Hershey Resorts and the local public.
