Performance Payout Checks Totaling
$2.1 Million Awarded to Harrah's Employees
for Third Quarter Performance

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 1, 1999 - Achieving service goals in the third quarter resulted in a record $2.1 million in bonuses being paid to over 12 thousand line-level employees at eight Harrahs brand casinos. This brings the total of quarterly bonuses paid to line-level employees this year by Harrahs Entertainment to $5.7 million.  The individual checks ranging from $150 to $300 each are being paid for reaching incentive goals in Harrahs Entertainment, Inc.s one-of-a-kind line- level quarterly bonus program, Performance Payout. Launched in the first quarter of this year, Performance Payout awards employees bonus checks based on customer feedback surveys and market share goals for the quarter.

Twelve thousand-three hundred employees at these Harrahs brand casinos received Performance Payout checks for the third quarter: Ak Chin, Atlantic City, East Chicago, Joliet, Las Vegas, Laughlin, St. Louis and Bills Lake Tahoe. St. Louis, East Chicago, Laughlin and Atlantic City employees have received bonuses every quarter this year. This is the first quarter that employees at Harrahs Joliet

Our focus this year on service excellence is paying off with terrific quarterly financial results, explains Harrahs Entertainment Chief Operating Officer Gary Loveman. It has also proved financially rewarding to thousands of employees who have successfully executed the service strategies that we know are important to our customers.

This year has been terrific in every respect for East Chicago employees, adds Harrahs East Chicago Senior Vice President and General Manager Joe Domenico.  In our continuous pursuit to be number one, weve increased our market share six points and improved our customer feedback results by nearly 40%.  In addition to converting to the Harrahs brand in the first quarter and our $30 million renovation project, we can attribute that success to the extensive service training and execution of that training by our outstanding employees.  East Chicago employees know they truly can make a difference in servicing our customers.

Division presidents and property general managers are now setting the service and market share goals for each property in the fourth quarter.
