PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas, Sept. 15, 1999 - The Atlantis,
Paradise Island Resort, renowned for its spectacular architecture and the
worlds largest marine habitat, is fully operational and in good condition
with no major damage from Hurricane Floyd, according to Sol Kerzner, chairman
and CEO of Sun International Hotels, owner and operator of the property.
The resort did not close during the storm and remains open and will be
taking new guest arrivals Friday, September 17.
The hurricanes affect on the property was mainly cosmetic in the areas
of landscaping and minor water leakage in some public areas and rooms.
The property never lost power or water. The 50,000 fish and sea animals
living in the marine habitat weathered the storm undisturbed. The Marina
at Atlantis provided shelter for 70 yachts. The Marina received no damage
and is fully operational as well. The resorts extensive offering of pools
and water slides are available for guest use following deck cleanup.
According to Atlantis water sports staff, many people are taking advantage
of todays clear, sunny sky and warm temperatures to enjoy the outdoors.
Mr.
Kerzner, along with a staff of 400, attended to the needs of the resorts
1700 guests, who, because of the companys comprehensive hurricane preparedness
program, were made secure and safe in an efficient manner. To assure property-wide
safety, guests were accommodated in the resorts new conference center
ballroom where they were entertained with movies and games and served hot
meals. Camp counselors from the propertys recently opened Discovery Channel
Camp organized recreational activities for the youngsters. Guests, who
received two nights complimentary accommodation and food and beverage,
returned to their rooms late Tuesday afternoon and many enjoyed an evening
in the Atlantis Casino and restaurants.
Im very proud of the Atlantis staff who took exceptional care of our
guests, said Mr. Kerzner. We had a solid plan in place for handling this
situation and Im pleased with the outcome. There was a great deal of bonding
between the guests and remarkably many people came out of this with friends.
We are happy that the property is in good shape and that we can welcome
new guest arrivals this week. |
