The 419-room Sheraton Club des Pins Resort
and Towers Opens in Algiers

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 14, 1999 - The expansion of Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. continues in Africa with the opening of a newly built resort in Algeria, just in time for the 35th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of African Unity.

The 419-room Sheraton Club des Pins Resort and Towers in Algiers, owned by the Societee Investissement Hoteliere of Algiers and managed by Sheraton, was the site of this months international summit hosting 58 heads of state and the Secretary General of the U.N. With this opening, Starwoods Africa, India and Middle East division now has 46 hotels in 24 countries.

The Sheraton Club des Pins Resort and Towers is an elegant hotel with the finest leisure and business facilities, especially in the area of conferences, says Sami Zoghbi, president of the Africa, India and Middle East division of Starwood Hotels Resorts. This magnificent, newly built property will certainly enhance Algiers as a quality destination for international summits and conferences.

In addition to state-of-the-art translation facilities, the hotel has an auditorium and 12 additional meeting rooms with sound system, LCD, video and slide projection. Accommodations include 281 standard rooms, 36 superior rooms, 62 junior suites, 38 standard suites and two presidential suites, and each of the hotels eight theme restaurants offers excellent sea views.

Located just 13 miles from the city center and 22 miles from the international airport, the hotel complex offers a number of recreational activities and facilities including a kilometer-long private beach, four tennis courts, a fitness center, sauna and steam room. Guests also can take advantage of world class water skiing, sailing and windsurfing opportunities.

The delightful fishing port of Madrague and the Sidi-Ferruch tourist complex are nearby. Tours of the ancient Roman towns of Tipaza and Cherchell (formerly known as the City of Augustus Caesar) and along the world famous Casbah are organized by the hotel, making it especially attractive to the incentive market.

The Sheraton Club des Pins is very family oriented as well as being a business destination, so it will contribute to the long-term development of tourism in the country, says Zoghbi.

Sheraton has more than 370 hotels in 62 countries and is owned by Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc.  With the opening of a new hotel in Amman, Jordan, Starwood will very shortly become the only hotel chain with a property in most major capitals and business centers in the Middle East. The company, through its St. Regis Luxury Collection, Westin, Sheraton, Four Points, W and Caesars subsidiaries, is one of the leading hotel companies in the world with more than 700 hotels in 73 countries and 185,000 employees.
