600-room Outrigger Guam Resort Opens;
Blending Hawaiian Hospitality with
Guam's Chamorro Culture

HONOLULU - July 29, 1999 - Outrigger Hotels Resorts is pleased to announce the grand opening of the 600-room Outrigger Guam Resort, located on Tumon Bay, Guam.  Its Outriggers largest property in the Pacific and its third in Micronesia.  As a hotel company based in Hawaii, Outrigger Hotels Resorts is merging the Hawaiian essence of hospitality (hookipa) with its Chamorro counterpart (inafamaolek) at the deluxe, beachfront resort.

According to Perry Sorenson, Outriggers chief operating officer, This was a much anticipated opening for Outrigger. The Outrigger Guam Resort is the largest and most ambitious project in our Pacific expansion and its a real gem.

The beachfront Outrigger Guam Resort is centrally located at 1255 Pale San Vitores Road, Tumon Bay, Guam. The resort offers 600 luxurious, ocean-view rooms and suites including Outriggers exclusive Voyager Club facilities and services.

Nestled along the shoreline, the Outrigger Guam Resort features many services and amenities including a full-service Mandara Spa and Fitness Center, business center, wedding chapel, conference and meeting facilities, restaurants and cocktail lounges and tropical swimming pools and water slide on its beautifully landscaped grounds.

The Outrigger Guam Resorts location makes it ideal for visitors to receive a complete Guam experience.  World-class shopping, dining and entertainment are all within walking distance. Its situated in the heart of Pleasure IslandGuams entertainment center. Pleasure Island features the Plaza Shopping Center, Game Works, UnderWater World, SandCastle Entertainment Complex, DFS Galleria, Sam Choys, Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe and more.

Outrigger Guam Resort guests will experience unsurpassed island hospitality. Dorsey Brady, general manager of the resort said, The spirit of inafamaolek will prevail just as the aloha spirit does in Hawaii. Our guests will also have opportunities to learn about the host Chamorro culture as the property has incorporated a Charmorro sense of place throughout the resort.

The Chamoru culture is visually manifested in dances, sea navigation, unique cuisines, games {batu, chonka, estuleks and bayogu}, songs and fashion influenced by the transmigration of peoples from other lands. Prior to being an American Territory in 1898, Guam was colonized by Spain from 1521 which, in order to preserve the lucrative Spanish galleon trade routes, almost exterminated the original inhabitants of Guam. The culture endured nontheless through the survival of the Chamoru language. Source: Government of Guam
