 Choice Hotels Establishes Internet Purchasing with Home Depot and American HotelRegister 
SILVER SPRING, Md., May 25, 1999 -  Choice Hotels International Inc. (NYSE: CHH), the second largest hotel franchise company in the world, today announced two new e-commerce partnerships with product supply giants Maintenance Warehouse, a division of The Home Depot, and American Hotel Register Company.

Through the new partnerships, Choice's franchisees will be able to access contracted pricing for thousands of nationally known products from The Home Depot's Maintenance Warehouse and American Hotel Register. The products will be available on, Choice's new user-friendly, internet-based ordering system for franchisees that links them directly to Choice's endorsed vendors.

The new partnerships further strengthen Choice's "4-Win" strategy of leveraging the size and scope of all of Choice's hotels worldwide to negotiate alliances that result in maximum value for franchisees, the vendor, guests and Choice.

"The Home Depot and American Hotel Register recognize the value of partnering with Choice Hotels," said Charles A. Ledsinger, Jr., Choice's president and chief executive officer. "Through our innovative web-based system, these supply giants have access to a distribution channel of almost 5,000 hotels worldwide representing nearly 400,000 rooms. provides our partners with a cost effective way of accessing sizable purchasing power."

According to Ledsinger, the system may potentially drive annual expenditures of $1.5 billion in goods and services by Choice franchisees. The company is also continuing to pursue strategic alliances with large hotel and consumer-based product companies that will not only leverage Choice's sizable franchise system but also the millions of guests they serve annually.

Maintenance Warehouse, a Home Depot Company offers free, next day delivery on more than 12,000 repair parts and maintenance supplies including plumbing, electrical, hardware, lamps and lighting fixtures and more, featuring brand names such as Sylvania, Sloan, Motorola and Rubbermaid.

The American Hotel Register Company is a 134 year-old, family-owned business offering more than 37,000 of the latest products from hundreds of brand name manufacturers such as Marietta, Sunbeam, Westpoint Stevens, and Thomasville.
