New York Convention Visitors Bureau Partners with Ticketmaster for Revised Online Site

NEW YORK, April 20, 1999 -  In a move to expand its audience and provide the best information possible to the vast and growing online audience, the New York Convention Visitors Bureau (NYCVB) has debuted a new Web site designed by Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch (Nasdaq: TMCS), an award-winning provider of locally developed online information and transaction services.

The re-designed site, located at the NYCVB's original address (www.nycvisit.com), enables the NYCVB to provide up-to-the-minute New York City information to visitors, travel professionals, meeting planners, and members of the press in a format that is quick and easy to use. The NYCVB site is linked directly from CitySearch's heavily-trafficked online city guide (newyork.citysearch.com).

"The NYCVB's goal is to communicate to people everywhere that New York is the best city in the world," said Fran Reiter, NYCVB President CEO. "Thanks to the expertise of the CitySearch team, the new site provides information about New York City that is compelling, comprehensive, and up-to-the-minute. In addition, by working with CitySearch we are able to access their large and growing audience of domestic and international travelers."

"This partnership represents a major opportunity to present our award-winning travel content to the 34 million travelers who visit New York City," said Steven Trepp, General Manager of the CitySearch New York site. "We are very pleased to partner with the NYCVB and its members to provide the latest technology and most comprehensive information on arts and entertainment, shopping, and visitor services." A recent study by NPD Research found that 70% of Internet surfers visit travel related sites.

Some new features added to the NYCVB site include:

  • Complete reconstruction and redesign incorporating the latest advances in Web site technology
  • Continually updated information on New York City hotels, restaurants, special events, entertainment, and cultural attractions
  • Access to CitySearch event listings
  • Information on ordering NYCVB travel planning publications
  • Detailed maps of all five boroughs
  • Information geared specifically for visitors, meeting planners, travel professionals, and the media
  • Photo gallery of major New York City attractions in all five boroughs
  • Sample itineraries geared to all types of visitors (seniors, families, etc.)
The NYCVB and CitySearch are also developing a number of joint marketing initiatives including a special online marketing package created for NYCVB member businesses. "With the combined audience and marketing power of CitySearch and the NYCVB, I know my Web site will have global reach," said Ludmyla Block of Mars 2112, a restaurant in Manhattan and NYCVB member. "We are looking forward to working with them to promote Mars 2112 to visitors and residents; the possibilities are endless."

CitySearch is also a major promotional partner with the NYCVB in initiatives that position New York as "The Best Restaurant City in the World" and "The Best Cultural City in the World," among other promotions. CitySearch has a long list of credits, including PC Magazine's "Editor's Choice" Award for Web Regional Guides, the 1998 "Webby" Award for best travel Web site, and a 1999 ranking by Brill's Content magazine as the "best overall city guide."
