City of Los Angeles Redefines Zoning Code
to Accommodate New Marriott Residence Inn -
City adds new category -  Extended Stay Hotels

West Los Angeles -  March 24, 1999 Mayor Richard Riordan has redefined the commercial zoning code of the City of Los Angeles to pave the way for the Marroitt Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills located at Beverly and Pico.  Mayor Riordan and the City of Los Angeles recognize that the extended-stay [5 days or more] business is the fastest growing, highest occupancy segment of the hospitality industry, said Karl Sternbaum, hotelier and real estate developer.  Los Angeles redefined the zoning code because the Marroitt Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills is the first extended-stay property in the City of Los Angeles, said Sternbaum.  The Citys willingness to redefine the zoning code is a testimony to the Citys commitment to urban renewal.

Los Angeles is committed to customer service, said Mayor Richard J. Riordan.  The new Extended Stay Zoning Category will help meet our citys rapid growth in business and tourism.  I am delighted to welcome Marriott Residence Inn to the City of Angels.

Prior to this rezoning initiative, there was no definition of an extended stay facility.  Instead, these businesses were referred to as apartment/ hotels.  As a result of Marriott Residence Inn Beverly Hills, the new extended-stay code is defined as any hotel that provides visitors with a full kitchen and is occupied for less than thirty days.  Since all rooms at the Marriott Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills offer full kitchens, the new zoning interpretation was critical.

Offering a total of 188 suites (comprised of 148 studios, 26 one bedroom units, and 14 two bedroom suites) the Marriott Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills is centrally located within short driving distance from LAX Airport, the downtown Los Angeles financial and garment districts, the entertainment studios of West Los Angeles and Hollywood, and the Beverly Hills offices of talent agencies and management companies.  The Marriott Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills is the only extended stay option in the Beverly Hills area.

The hotel offers a variety of amenities, including suites that range in size from 400 to 650 sq. ft., with separate living quarters and sleeping areas, fully equipped kitchens, and 25" televisions with cable satellite channels.  In addition, keeping the needs of the business traveler in mind, the Residence Inn by Marriott - Beverly Hills has also provided in-suite office areas complete with modem hook-ups and voice mail.  And Factors deli will deliver room service 24 hours a day to hotel guests.

The Marriott Residence Inn -- Beverly Hills is located at 1177 S. Beverly Drive, Los Angeles, CA  90035; (310) 277-4427, fax: (310) 277-7488. Reservations: (800) 331-3131, or email: www.residenceinn.com.
