March, 1999 - The new Sol Melia, the result of the recent
take-over of Melia Inversiones Americanas (MIA) and merger with Inmotel
Inversiones, has invested more than 200 million pesetas (1,202,024.21 euros)
in the renovation of the Melia Confort Macarena Hotel, located just a short
distance from the historical centre of Seville and only 7 kms. from the
airport.
The renovation of the Melia Confort Macarena is being carried out in four separate phases, the last of which is scheduled for completion in January of next year. The work in progress includes a total renovation of the hotel's 333 guest rooms, with such features as the installation of modem and fax connections, the total renewal of bathrooms, wardrobes, windows and balconies, and new lighting and air-conditioning systems. Of special interest for business travellers, the Melia Confort Macarena has also created a new convention room for up to 120 guests, direct access from the hotel lobby to the hotel's six meeting rooms, and a new private dining room in the annex to one of the meeting rooms for up to 25 diners. The renovation has also included the enlargement of the hotel swimming pool area and private car park as well as the redecoration of meeting rooms. SOL MELIA RENOVATIONS In 1998 alone, the new Sol Melia invested more than 42 billion pesetas (252,425,083.84 euros) in the acquisition of new hotels, minority stakes in other hotels and in the new Spanish tour operator Viva Tours, and in the renovation and maintenance of its existing hotel portfolio. With regard to renovations, in 1997 the real estate company Inmotel Iversiones S.A, - owner of the Melia Confort Macarena and currently being merged with Sol Melia - began an extensive investment programme in improvements to its city and resort hotels throughout Spain involving a total outlay of 18 billion pesetas, and aimed at adapting hotel product and service quality to the needs and requirements of increasingly discerning guests. Sol Melia currently operates 246 hotels world-wide, 82 of which are owned by Inmotel and 7 by MIA, a company recently taken over by Sol Melia. The recent acquisitions and merger have made Sol Melia one of the largest hotel companies in the world and one of the hotel industry's leading contenders for growth in the future. |
