PORTSMOUTH, VA - March 08, 1999 - The City of Portsmouth
will break ground at Water and London streets at 11 a.m. Thursday, March
11, for the "Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel, a Waterfront Conference Center."
The $46 million project is a public-private partnership between the
City of Portsmouth and Stormont Trice Corp. of Atlanta, with active participation
from the Portsmouth Industrial Development Authority, Portsmouth Redevelopment
and Housing Authority and other agencies and organizations.
Portsmouth City Manager Ronald W. Massie will preside at the Groundbreaking
ceremony, with remarks by Portsmouth Mayor James W. Holley III, Dick Stormont
of Stormont Trice Corp., and an official from Renaissance Hotels.
Scheduled to open in the summer of 2000, the project features a first-class,
full-service 250-room destination hotel, a conference center with community
ballrooms, as well as a high-tech executive learning Center and a 460-space
parking garage.
Renaissance is the newest member of the Marriott lodging family, featuring
upscale accommodations and award-winning dining for business, meeting and
leisure travelers. |
