GM, Samira Hateley Providing
the "Detail to Attention"
at the Grand Mercure Hotel, Melbourne, Australia

March 1999 - All suite, apartment style accommodation in the heart of Melbourne city is what the deluxe Grand Mercure Hotel Melbourne offers it's guests, but visitors to this boutique 58 suite hotel seem to take so much more away with them.

The success of this four and a half star Accor hotel comes not only from the apartment style accommodation of lounge area, separate bedroom and mini kitchen, but also from it's discreet and intimate atmosphere and personal attention to detail.

General Manager Ms Samira Hateley and her team go to extreme lengths to ensure guests feel like they are coming home when staying at the Grand Mercure in Flinders Lane, and with some rooms measuring 90 square metres, they certainly have the room to spread out and get comfortable.

"As a boutique, all suite hotel, we succeed because we offer apartment style facilities with full hotel service. We take the time to know what our guests like and we're securing major business from our larger five star competitors because we prioritise attention to detail. Our research indicates that recognition is the key to building loyalty and at Grand Mercure, we genuinely recognise our customers", commented Ms Hateley.

From personalised 'Sleep well Mr/Ms' pillow cases on the beds and glassware in the bar for regular guests, to live goldfish to keep guests company in the large Deluxe Suites, small gestures are winning great feedback from guests.

"Our celebrity guests appreciate the fact that their privacy is respected and our corporate guests know we go out of our way where possible to ensure they remain comfortable. As a result of this person to person treatment, morale is exceptionally high as staff feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for the overall positioning of the hotel."

"On one occasion, a guest was running terribly late for a meeting as his taxi had not arrived. I offered him the use of my car and he was quite overwhelmed. At this hotel, we're close enough to what's happening to really make an impact on the guest experience", Ms Hateley concluded.

Facilities at the hotel include fully equipped Corporate Health Club complete with spa, steamroom, massage and solarium, business and secretarial services, security parking, three non-smoking floors, disabled suites, valet laundry and dry cleaning.  In-room apartment style facilities include wide opening windows, separate entertaining areas and private bar, microwave, kettle and toaster, in-suite facsimile and computer line facility, full bath and iron and ironing board.

Corporate rates start from $220.00 per night.

Grand Mercure Hotel Melbourne is within walking distance of the Victorian Art Centre including the National Gallery, Southgate complex, Botanical Gardens, Yarra River, Crown Casino, the MCG, Flinders Park Tennis Centre and the best of Melbourne's shopping, restaurants, nightlife and theatres.
