The SABRE Group Records an Online Travel Sales Week Volume of $9 Million;
$285 Million in Online Travel Sales for 1998

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 20, 1999 -  The SABRE Group (NYSE: TSG) today announced that Travelocity.com has raised the industry benchmark for online travel by recording more than $9 million in sales for the week ending January 10.

Throughout the past year, the company consistently led the industry with record breaking weekly sales figures. Online revenue in 1998 for The SABRE Group's consumer-direct products, including Travelocity.com, was $285 million, more than double that of the previous year.

"We believe our 1998 revenue is evidence of our leadership position in the online travel arena," said Terry Jones, chief information officer of The SABRE Group. "By focusing our efforts on the consumer's need for convenience, speed, security and low prices, we will continue to experience increased success in 1999." The company's achievements in 1998 were fueled by successful product innovations and site enhancements including:

  • Shop Safe Guarantee - an added assurance against unauthorized credit card usage
  • A site redesign - the addition of features developed to speed the flight booking process and provide an improved hotel database, giving members access to reviews, amenities, maps and photos
  • An express buy feature - customers purchase airline tickets with just three clicks of the mouse
In addition to the positive market response, the industry has also recognized Travelocity.com with a host of awards. Already this month, the site was named "Best Online Travel Network" by Yahoo! Internet Life, "Top 100 Web Site" by PC Magazine and was nominated for the Webby Award's "Best Travel Web Site." Awards for 1998 included the following:
  • "World's Leading Travel Internet Site" by the World Travel Awards for the second consecutive year
  • "Best Travel Web Site" by readers of Business Travel International Magazine in February 1998
